The UEG Security Council is the security body of the Unified Earth Government. The United Nations Space Command and its High Command operate under the UEG Security Council's approval. This remained true to an unknown, perhaps ceremonial, extent during the Human-Covenant War, when the UNSC held emergency governing powers. Following the Fall of Reach on August 30, 2552, all remaining forces of the UNSC Navy were assigned to the Home Fleet in the Sol system, with Fleet Admiral Joseph Harper being appointed senior flag officer and given administrative and tasking authority over all aerospace assets within the system. These actions occurred under emergency security directives authorized by UNSC High Command and approved by the UEG Security Council.[1]
