Useless info
Why do we need two separate lists of how to unlock each permutation? Either the list or the chart needs deleted, it is redundant. InnerRayg 17:16, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
ALL of this info is completely f****** useless because amid all the fanwank backslappery about how you unlock all this stuff, there isn't a single line explaining how the player actually SETS which armour is used. Are you all so fucking detached from reality that you don't think that information is relevant???

Typo
"There are a wide variety of SPARTAN armor permutations, with 12 helmets, 8 shoulder pieces, and 8 chest pieces for a total of 6,144 different SPARTAN armor permutation combinations: one helmet, two shoulder pieces, and chest piece per permutation. This excludes color variations." Should say 10 helmets, 7 shoulder pieces, and 6 chest pieces for public use as well as a helemet, shoulder, and two chest pieces for Bungie's.
I edited it to say 11 helmets because they probably counted the flaming chest piece is a helmet.
But the rest is correct, no matter if they aren't public. Somebody can change the number of possible combinations as I don't know how to count them.

Thumbnail next to one of the Spartan images says "Rouge helmet" instead of "Rogue Helmet"
Might also be a good idea to move the picture of the "Elite in Red Armor" from the section devoted to Spartans into, you know, the section devoted to Elites. Just a thought.

Recon Armor
On Friday, October 26, 2007, Bungie's Weekly Update revealed that certain players can obtain Recon armor. It says "We’ll give it out based on good deeds and valuable community service and occasionally because they make us laugh, as seen above. There will be plenty of occasions and reasons to get it." A "ZB Shogun" and a "Skyllus vBi" are the first two non-Bungie members to get the Recon permutations.
DigitalPhe33ar, maker of "Arby 'n" the Chief" also got it. But its not available to the general public until the remaining Vidmaster achievements are unlocked. Major Wolf 15:53, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
Additions
I took my two renders down. Nobody has my permission to post them on the internet. They weren't ever even supposed to leave AIM conversations.

Unlockable
I heard talk the armor permutations have to be unlocked. Is there any evidence supporting this?

Actually that was also stated by bungie. It is a sum of all gamescore acheived in halo 3, I just don't know if we need all 1000 to get all of them. I don't have xbox live so I can't get them all.-- GhostR17 00:21, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
Im actually thinking theres certain things you need to do to unlock them. Ninja migh be unlocked through a certain amount of assassination kills and the "samurai" might be acheived through beat downs and scout may be sniper kills. I guess we'll no for sure this tuesday.-DiablosInferno
It depends. Some armor perms are given upon completion of the campaign on certain levels, others for achievements, or skulls. Some are for Gamerscore points. Some of them are unvealed in the "Extras" section of the offical Halo 3 guide in a relatively small box, in case it helps anyone. -Spartan119

It looks like the plasma cannon turret or the halo PC fuel rod gun lowered...

Arbiter's armor in multiplayer?
I took this picture from a magazine, duz this mean the Arbiter's armor will be in halo 3 multiplayer?

I've been changing any refrence to it as speculation cos i think its quite doubtful. For one his armour doesn't mix with the outher styles as the Spartan armour does. The variations are all basically changes to the chest plate, shoulder pad and helemt, legs and arms remain the same, which is obviously a problem with the Arbiter armour. Also theres no place for a logo because his armour is too ornate, it would jsut look distorted and strange. And finally, that iamge of the Arbiter together with an EVA Spartan is photoshopped, becuase that picture of the EVA Spartan is already existing as a stand along picture.You can also tell because the arbiter's light source is too his side and the Spartans is to his fron or above. I've never ever seen Arbiter armour in Multiplayer, and yet there is mention of 'arbter katana' on the Armour perms page. Unless someone can come up with a screenshot, it should be removed. Diaboy 14:25, 13 March 2008 (UTC) It doesn't exist W00tiness
Arbiter Armor is the Elite's verison of Recon that is given out to Elite Players instead of Recon by Bungie Employees. This coming from a Bungie Employee's mouth at PAX'08. --66.114.226.5 22:42, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Amount of Armor permutations confirmed in the live Epsilon feed leak
In the live Feed the amount of Armor permutations was clearly listed to be 10 for Spartans and 5 for Elites. Only a few were actually unlocked for use in Epsilon but in the Armor selection menu it says "Armor X of 10" or "Armor x of 5" respectively for Spartans and Elites. This can barely seen in any of the recordings taken of the feed and placed on YouTube, due to YouTube's inherent quality, but you can ask any of the other hundreds of people that were watching it when he was customizing his armor and paying attention to that little detail.

are the armor perms available offline
The X out of 10 is kinda shot down now that there is 11 Spartan Armor Permutations at this moment, but even then it seems like a lot of the info on this armor is being pulled out of peoples own asses? The the ODST armor says you need to get a Multiplayer only achievement to unlock it, but it is unknow. And they state no source! The only thing that is know is that there is armor and most of it can be seen by going to www.bungie.net and then the bungie online section and going to peoples gamertags who are playing Halo 3 right now and look at the current armor set. All of the people right now seem to be using Spartan-II armor sets and no elite --Halo freak 117 06:36, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Its just for multiplayer purposes and has been designated as the EVA armor so it resembles SPI but is not in fact SPI --Halo freak 117 23:19, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Missing

[Edit by Porrick] Not all of the armour permutations have all pieces - Mark V, for example, is just a helmet and Security is just helmet and shoulders. What I wonder is why the "rogue" set is spelled "rouge" in the pic posted on the armour sets page... I don't see any makeup on the model...
Cha0tiks- well there is a chest armor for the MARK v helmet but its not called MARK V, the chest armor is called EOD. to unlock this chest armor play "Tsavo Highway" on legendary
Flaming head is unlockable
You need to get 300 kills with incindinary grenades. I can't find a specific source at the moment, but someone claims that is it, and non-Bungie employees have been seen with it. Someone dig around for a link. -Erik 03:44, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure that's a rumor. lukems in Bungie's weekly update (10/12/07, http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&cid=12857) says,
"I’m making a list, I’m checking it twice, and it’s a list of dumb messages (and perfectly polite ones) inquiring about the Recon armor permutation. The short answer to those inquiries is, “No, you can’t have it.” The people you see with the Recon helmet are Bungie employees, and they did nothing in-game to unlock it. There is nothing you can do to unlock it.
The same counts for the flames. Don’t be too jealous however, since the flaming head makes us a giant target and is reflected in our online performances sometimes. Sending us angry or rude messages won’t help and our policy now is to simply block communications with folks who’re rude and our sincere apologies to the polite folks, that we don’t have enough time to answer your question individually. We’ve had literally thousands of requests."
Most likely the non-Bungie employees don't have it, or its something like it. Or they're hackers, in which case a real Bungie employee will take care of it. no my friend has the recon chest and shoulers as fo the flame my bothe ot that 300 flame grenade kills the recon u get it in holiay events like ranked matches 20 for one shoulder 40 for both 60 for chest and 80 for helmet - gundamon
Overkill descritpions are WAY off
they said an overkill is 25 kills without a death inbetween when teh achievement cleary says:
Overkill
Kill 4 enemies within 4 seconds of one another in a ranked free for all playlist (Online).
Also do you think they're gonna come out with new permutations?

This is where I have to stick up for my self I did do my research and a killing frenzy was needed which I did but it failed to work. Then I found out that there is a problem with the amour and should be getting fixed soon .As for the shoulder blades well that was just stupidity. in the main picture on this page, the thumbnails for the recon and serrity armors, there is bodyarmor that is not identified. what is this? recon armor? either way it needs to be investegated and edited.

Guests Can Unlock Armor
I wanted to see if a guest could unlock any armor in Halo 3 so I signed one in and went for the one non-achievement related armor, the Hayabusa. After collecting 5 skulls the Hayabusa Chest piece had been unlocked for the guest. After collecting 9 skulls, the Hayabusa Shoulders had been unlocked for the guest. I did NOT get the remaining skulls or attempt to get any achievements with the guest but some armor can be unlocked for guests. I'm not positive if the armor remains unlocked after the guest signs out, but I suspect that it doesn't. Here is an image from the game I used the Hayabusa Guest in, my Live Account is Ninjas in Nikes and the picture is on my profile on bungie.net if verification is needed.
Guests can unlock and keep armor. It's a little obvious, really. There are many people whom don't have Xbox Live so they have to have regular Xbox profiles. Bungie wouldn't want to have underprivelaged people with Halo 3 not be able to enjoy Armor Permutations. E93 01:06, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
That's a good point but it wasn't exactly what I was talking about. I meant a temporary profile such as the "Guest" profile that is available when you sign in another player.
Inaccuracies in Stated Unlocking Requirements
The Security shoulder armor will not unlock merely by getting 750 points. They only unlock after completing all of the meta-game achievements, the page should be updated to reflect that.
- Further to that, this was reported:
- "Unlocking the Security Shoulders does not require an arbitrary amount of points. Rather, the player must unlock 39 Achievments. Ergo, the points can vary considerably. I can testify to this, since I had 810 points and no shoulders, but then I got my 39th achievement (820 points) and I've had them ever since!"

As of this morning, I have 845 achievement points and 30 achievements unlocked (including Marathon Man), but still don't have Security shoulders -- just FYI. NOTE FROM A GUEST - I do not have 39 Halo 3 achievements, I found that to unlock them - get 750 Achievment points in Halo 3, then complete 1 meta game achievement (I did demon) to unlock them.
MightyMe18 - I don't think that 39 achievements has anything to do with it. Right now I have 30 achievements, 600 gamerscore, and I have the security shoulder pads. I don't have any meta game achievements.
Cha0tiks- for some reason i got all my meta game achievements and the marathon man achievement and no armor. but when i beat campaign on legendary the security shoulders were unlocked :o wierd
Guys. i've got something over 900 GS. i had completed 2 meta achievements after getting 800 GS, and still no shoulders. i had 40 acievements and still no shoulders. it may depend on some of those, but i can assure you that i unlocked my security shoulders upon completion of the "Steppin' Razor" achievement. we really need to work out EXACTLY what the requirements are. Hey guys, something is kinda strange here. My gamertag is Queenlittle55 and I only have 410 gamerscore while I still do have security shoulders. Any explanations? Just curious.
I have the security shoulders with 455 gamerscore, 33/49 achievements. Have marathon man, haven't beaten the game yet. Missing all meta, tilt, blackeye, campaign completes(all), mission 2 and 7 achievements. -- Fanciest Pants

Hello, I have seen many reports of the security shoulders unlocking, then locking shortly after. I have experienced this, but then I reunlocked them by simply getting another achievement. I got the Steppin Razor achievement, but I don't think the actual type of achievement counts. -Note From Guest.
Elite Pictures

Elite Armor Permutations Fixed.
I re-uploaded an image with the elite permutations with the correct labeling.
So the caption can now be changed.
Armor glitch... no not that one ...or that one...OR THAT one.
On a co-op playthrough of Floodgate one of the elite corpses in infinite devil machine had a fusion assault/combat helmet with an assault front face and the rear finns of combat not sure whaere to file this. When you unlock armor perms are they unlocked for other profiles also?

MARK V armor
i know the description says "unlock the UNSC Spartan achievement" and it says "Earn your Sergeant rating to be recognized as a true Spartan". But when do you exactly Earn your Sergeant rank?? :)
you've got to hit a certain amount of EXP to get to the sergeant ranks. it's not much. to get to the officer ranks you've got to have 70 EXP and 10 skill though. JakCurse20:00 6th January 2008

EDIT- I've now got every achievement, barring "Steppin' Razor", "Overkill" and the metas (exepting Demon, which i've got in the last hour) and 910-ish gamerscore, STILL no security shoulders. this is either seriously bugged or it relies on one of the above achievements. im considering that it may be overkill, as i've seen people with 600 GS and security shoulders, with the majority of my achievements, plus, as i've said, overkill. i've completed the campaign on ledendary, and unlocked marathon man, so it isn't either of those. that, OR they're bugged like the commando shoulders. 2nd EDIT- i've got them. after unlocking the meta achievement for the fourth mission, i still didnt have the shoulders, and that was the fortieth achievement, so it rules the "39" thing out. But today unlocking, "Steppin' Razor" i unlocked the shoulders ^^ as far as i'm concerned, that was the catalyst. JakCurse 21:35, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Security Shoulders
This is a little strange. My gamer tag is Jake Conhale, and I could have sworn I got the shoulders and then they relocked. When they first became available, I had just gotten the Lee R. Wilson memorial achievement, and that put my gamer score at 890. The achievements I had not yet gotten were all but Reclaimer of the campaign scoring, Mongoose Mowdown, Steppin' Razor, Killing Frenzy, We're in for some Chop, Two For One, and Maybe Next time Buddy.
I am pretty sure that I hadn't had this before, as I had previously gotten Overkill, Triple Kill, and Up Close and Personal all at once immediately prior to the Lee R. Wilson achievement, and I had cycled through the armor permutations.
The next day, I got Mongoose Mowdown, unlocking the Scout Shoulders, but the Security Shoulders are now locked again. I wasn't sure prior if I could have mistaken the EOD shoulders for the Security, but I remember the sheer bulkiness of the Security, the boxiness.
I just checked Theater and I even have a Lone Wolves video with one of the shoulders! I definitely had the shoulders, now I do not. I am saving the film in case anyone is curious.
I am hoping that they will unlock again as I get the rest of the achievements, but who knows? written 22nd January, 2008

Strange that Security would be a re-creation of the original armor in the game Marathon and Marathon Man unlocked my security pads. Hmmmm. The terminals are also from Marathon as well. That is, if I remember correctly.
Kitten Kickerz: Yeah...I got them and I only have 630 gamerscore... I got 3 achievements for 175 on the covenant level by beating it on normal and beating normal campaign....beating that level on above easy and by getting 50k points. and I got the security shoulders.
Aj M.- I have a gamer score of 660, and I both have, and don't have the shoulders. On certain days, I'll log in and find that they are unlocked, and on others, they will be unlocked. I have the Marathon Man achievement, and I got the shoulders a month later. I've heard the shoulders are unlocked after getting 39 achievements, and I have 36, so. Plus, if I'm not logged into live, the pads are locked.
Snipe Skill2 (Xbox Live name): I had the security shoulder blades for about a month and then in all of a sudden they dissappeared. I dont know what happened to them. Someone please help me!!!!!
desudo - I have just recently unlocked security shoulders & helmet - It was inbetween me have either 35, 36 or 37 achievements and a gamerscore of 845 upto 920 - I'd love to narrow it down more but I only noticed it after getting the 3 mythic skull achievements today - also I have yet to get Marathon Man achievement
Elite Commando Shoulders
The 02/08/08 update says that Steppin’ Razor unlocks the Commando Shoulders, not Killing Frenzy like the article says. Maybe we should change the article?

The shoulders weren’t unlocking when the Steppin’ Razor achievement was acquired. Recon Armor
The Recon armor is a armor only used by bungie empoyees. (what the point teling us).So pretty much bungie employees have it only and no one else can have it. Now there has been four given it anyway. The lucky people that got it was by impressing bungie or making them laugh. Thats it so far. We really dont know any other way than that if we do we will post it up right away. Please dont complain to bungie and send them rude messages they really dont have time for that there is a short simple answer for that if you ask "can i have the recon armor" there answer will be "NO" they deserve the recon armor becuase they worked hard on the game as much as we want it they decide if we get it or not there is a 15-25% chance of getting this armor and like we said by making bungie laugh. One of the lucky people that got was they sniped someone it hit the ground it bounced back to him and killed him and that made bungie laugh or like the cone ownage, search for them on youtube. so if you want the recon armor or the flaming recon or any other flaming helmet make bungie laugh
I know one of the people who got Recon armor was the guy from Digital Ph33r for his Arby 'n' the Chief skits, and 2 went to the people who died in weird ways, if there is 4, who is the 4th? And is there a reliable source for who has been given the armor?

About Commando Shoulders
The article states that "due to complaints from the players about this permutation being glitched, Bungie has fixed this and after the auto-update, will automatically unlock for every player, even those who don't have the permutation unlocked."
This should be ommited for two reasons. 1. It's already stated more clearly in another part of the article 2. It was glitched for everyone, so I doubt fan complaints had anything to do with it being fixed. And if it must stay, at least put it in the right section. RE: The Flaming Bungie Helmet.
I can't seem to remember where i found this out, but the bungie helmet is in fact not the helmet at all. it's an EOD body piece, but it's shown as "Bungie" in the selector, and the description is something like "Tested in the fires of a thousand battles, go forth and represent." i know that it isn't accurate, but it's along those lines. 88.110.115.160 22:29, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

I think bungie should make a download or something for Brute armor. I was extremely disappointed when I realized that there is no Brute armor. (Canadian Chief)

People have been asking for or suggesting new armours for a while. The following are merely some of my ideas for what could work.

Elite Helmets: No Helmet (Who wouldn't like to see an Elite's face in MP?)
Honour Guard Helmet
Councillor Helmet
The Curved Helmets from Halo CE
Shoulders: Honour Guard
Body: Honour Guard (This would give the hip blades that Honour Guards had.)
Brutes Helmets: Infantry (The helmets worn by Brute Minors, Majors, and Ultras.)
Captain (The helmets worn by Brute Captains of all varieties.)
Stalker (The helmets worn by Brute Stalkers.)
Chieftan (The helmets worn by Brute Chieftans.)
Shoulders: Infantry
Captain
Stalker
Chieftan
Body: Infantry
Captain (Wearing a full set of Captain armour will add a Captain flag to
your back.)
Jump-jet
Stalker
Chieftan
Flood* Body: SPARTAN (Bungie planned on making one in Halo CE, so I'm sure they could make one
for MP.)

- Note: The Flood permutations would have to be modified to be able to wield two weapons.
Decals could just appear on the shoulder regions. Also, mix-and-match would not be
possible, at least in my opinion.

- Two things, 1) this isn't a forum, this page is used to describe issues about the article. Bungie.net has a topic for you to discuss your armor ideas. 2) I personally find this idea pointless anyway, Bungie has said that they cannot add any armor permutations as they didn't design the game to actually do that. I honestly don't believe that they CAN'T make DLC armor perms. How do people get the Recon armor(I know it is given by Bungie)? isn't that basically the same thing as DLC, but it is given to you? The same for the Bungie-only chestpiece. The game adds both of these in just like it adds in DLC for maps. I think Bungie could make DLC armor perms, but just 1.Don't want to, 2.Are going to, but they aren't going to get every1 hyped about it, in case they decide not to or sumthin like that.
- The data for the Recon armour is already on the disk. Its just turned off, like other locked permutations, until you unlock the vidmaster achievements, or Bungie unlock it. When bungie award Recon, they aren't uploading a new variant to your Xbox. I unlocked the Katana at 1050 G, using mythic achievements.

Color

Color is color. It determines the colors of the body armor and most of the helm (primary) and the color of shoulders and part of the helmet(secondary). It's just to make you more unique online. It's realy self explanetory. AJ Werefang 02:12, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

I think it is necesary to have one or the other, because when you go looking through the pages, one sentence will say "armor," the next "armour." So, I am chosing to write "armor," nothing against the British, but Bungie is American, so it should really be "armor."
Yeah i agree with the other guy too that some sentences say armor and others say armour, that could be quite weird if someone is editing the pages and then the other guy changed it back, and it pretty much get annoyed when editing cause you will see more red doted lines underneath them... Possible arbiter Armor in multiplayer
People say that they cant come out with the new elite armor because bungie said that the coding doesnt work and that all the armor that bungie gives or has is already in the game but isnt the Arbiter armor already in the game? It is but even if it is in campaign only cant bungie find a way to use it in multiplayer like recon? Also I dont know if this can be done and its just an idea.

Technically, it would probably not be possible, because the Arbiter armour is coded for a different setting than mp. However, I doubt it would be too hard for them to mod it enough to be usable for mp, but it really wouldn't have a use beyond Machinima and annoying people saying, 'Hey look I'm the Arbiter.'--Kre 'Nunumee 20:44, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
Its just that I think elites need armor that signifies respect. All elite armor is gained through easy achievement in lone wolves and you cant go up to someone and say " Oh look haz Ascestic armor." Also Elites cant wear katana and they dont have an equivalent to Recon and they have like 5 different permunitions per body part while the spartans have 10 or so. Wing3d F33t
