Joint Task Force MARIAH

Joint Task Force MARIAH is a UNSC military unit, including assigned Spartan supersoldiers, responsible for protecting the Ark portal at Voi, including underground extensions beneath the neighboring city of New Mombasa. After the Covenant invasion of Earth, the East African Protectorate with assistance of the Unified Earth Government and United Nations Space Command through Project Rebirth investment sought to rebuild New Mombasa. The UNSC used the reconstruction as cover to perform operations and investigate the Forerunner portal complex, including periodic patrols in New Mombasa in sectors where criminals and malcontents had staging areas. This was especially concerning due to New Mombasa's reconstruction and Forerunner secrets drawing insurrectionist factions, renegade Covenant splinter groups, and even Banished-aligned human mercenary groups.
