Haven arcology
From Halopedia, the Halo wiki
The Haven arcology was a residential building located in the Mato Grosso province on Mamore.[1][2]
History
In 2511, a suicide bomber affiliated with the Freedom and Liberation Party loaded a commercial nuclear explosive along with several tons of scrap Cadmium into a rental truck before detonating it in the promenade of the Haven arcology. The blast killed two million people and injured a further 8.3 million. Millions more were expected to die due to cancers and other diseases caused by the radioactive fallout, as well as cause birth defects for generations afterwards.
Trivia
The word "Arcology" is a portmanteau of the words "Architecture" and "Ecology". The term is often used in science fiction to describe large- or even mega-scale structures that are self-sufficient in terms of power generation, sewage treatment, air and water purification, climate control, and food production, among other factors. These structures are designed to minimize the impact of human habitation on surrounding ecosystems (aside from the space they take up), and are often conceived of as having populations ranging from several thousand to several million inhabitants.
