Diego Garcia

Diego Garcia is a small tropical island in the Indian Ocean of Earth, about 1,000 miles south of the southern India coast. It has been a military base since the mid 1900's. In 1971 RAF (British Royal Air Force) Gan was built there. As of sometime during the 19th century, it became a British Indian Ocean Territory and still was during the 21st Century. The UNSC base on the island launched the first counterattacks against the Covenant when they invaded New Mombasa in Kenya, Africa in 2552 during The First Battle of Earth. Among the units to respond was the 405th UNSC Marine Division. During the Second Battle of Earth, a computer screen showed a Covenant capital ship within what is probably firing range of the island. Its fate after the battle is unknown.
