UNSC Andraste is a Paris serving in the UNSC Navy.

Production notes
The UNSC Andraste was a UNSC Navy vessel attached to the UNSC Home Fleet, featured in concept art for Halo 3. Concept art for this vessel was shown in the book Art of Halo 3, as an early concept of what would evolve into the frigate Forward Unto Dawn. The name is a reference to Andraste, a Celtic war goddess.

The Andraste was originally concepted out during the production of Halo 3 by artist Isaac Hannaford. At the time, the design was intended to be used for the Charon featured in the final game, Forward Unto Dawn. The artwork is featured in the book The Art of Halo 3 and labelled as such on Hannaford's own blogs.
Class and development
Conjecture
It appears that during the development of Halo 3, the Andraste underwent a change from corvette into a frigate. The Art of Halo 3 refers to the ship as a corvette, and the Andraste's hull classification symbol as seen in concept art is K-201; 'K' was once a United States Navy hull classification for a corvette but has since been retired.

The design was ultimately unused in Halo 3, but was later reused in the release of its sequel Halo: Reach almost wholly unaltered from the original concept, with a 3D model created by artist Matt Turner. The frigate design featured in Reach was later canonised as the Paris in Halo: The Essential Visual Guide, with many of Hannaford's original labels ultimately informing the vessel's canon armaments as listed in the Halo Encyclopedia (2022 edition) such as the M2950 Harpoon nuclear missile.
However, the design of the ship is unmistakably similar to a UNSC frigate; it is possible that at the point when that particular image was made, the ship had already been established as a frigate. In addition, Isaac Hannaford, the artist who produced the image in question, identifies the ship as a UNSC frigate in his concept art blog.

Despite the ship class ultimately being canonised as a heavy frigate with the hull classification symbol of FFG, the Andraste concept artwork uses a hull classification symbol of K. In the artwork, the ship has a full hull code of K-201 - the same numeric as Forward Unto Dawns FFG-201, making it likely Andraste was the in-development precursor to the Dawn. A similar ship, Providence, also appears in some concept art for the Battle of Installation 00.
Due to its hull classification sharing the same number as the Forward Unto Dawn (201), it is likely that the ship was replaced by the Forward Unto Dawn in the game, and that the "K" in the hull classification symbol in the concept art was a remnant from an earlier point in development when the ship was still to be a corvette.

The Andraste was ultimately featured in the Halo Encyclopedia (2011 edition), effectively providing a somewhat canon depiction for the ship in a Halo source book.
The frigates in Halo 3 differ from the Andrastes design in a variety of ways, including a larger underside hangar. This change may have been made due to story necessities; including a scene in The Ark where the Forward Unto Dawn lowers multiple armored vehicles from its hangar, and in the end of the level Halo, where players must use a Warthog to jump into the open hangar. However, the design was more closely adapted to the Paris-class heavy frigates in Halo: Reach.
