Talk:Threshold

From Halopedia, the Halo wiki

Atmosphere[edit]

Also, somebody should include the fact that the atmosphere must contain oxygen, or the Elites would not be able to breathe in it, although the oxygen levels must be much lower than normal, since the Heretic Elites where respirators, suggesting that you need them for long term survival. Also there may be methane in the atmosphere, since the Heretic Grunts are breathing the light blue gas that is being mined.

Also the planet has a core of nitrogen or hydrogen.

Earth Survey Catalogue[edit]

Google and wikipedia doesn't reveal anything called the "Earth Survey Catalog", and I don't know of any mention of it in the books or games.--Raptor117 23:57, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Yeah. Looking through the history, I think User:Dragonclaws added it. He may made it up, but I dunno. --Geoffron 21:41, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

I didn't add it. I marked it as dubious. It looks like User:Esemono added it. --Dragonclaws(talk) 21:45, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

To tell you the truth I don't remember adding this but looking at the time I probably just copied it over from the old.Halopedia. HOWEVER, a two second google search reveals:

BigQuote|The Halo Story Bible has this to say about Halo 04 (as recorded in the PC Strategy Guide):

The name "Halo" is derived from Covenant battlefield transmissions, translated by Cortana. A more literal translation would be "Ring of Heaven" or "Ring of the Gods." Halo orbits a large gas giant (Earth Survey Catalogue Number B1008-AG, nicknamed "Threshold"), suspended at the Lagrange point between the planet and its largest moon, Basis."

Apparently the info Keyes overheard in captivity is slightly redundant. Hmmm...

This, however, may possibly aggravate speculation regarding the practical meanings of the name "Threshold"; that it is/contains a "gate", door, portal, etc. What could the Humans have known about this planet and moon before visiting, and without a more extensive knowledge of the system's contents and operations?

BigQuote|Earth Surver Catalogue B1008-AG, or "Threshold", is the gas-giant that Alpha Halo orbits between the Lagrange point between it, and it's largest moon, Basis. Little else is known about it's composition. Numerous Forerunner gas-mining facilities lie beneath it's upper atmosphere, where the Forerunners attempted to keep the Flood contained. After the facilities proves ineffectual, the Halos were built nearby to take over the containment procedures.

BigQuote|In the MP guide section of Halo 1 for Xbox. It describes Derelict as a "long unused portion of Halo". And yet... in the game, the UI describes it as "Deep-Space Anomaly #0198".

Given that Threshold has also been recorded in UNSC logs as "Earth Survey Catalogue Number B1008-AG, nick-named "Threshold"", (this was in the Halo Story Bible) it is reasonable to assume that both Threshold and Halo have been encountered by the UNSC in some form, and probably at the same time.

Interesting, no? I thought Derelict might be some other Forerunner remnant (considering that there are windows on all sides and Halo is no where to be seen), but if the MP guide is right about it being part of Halo... that means that Deep-Space Anomaly #0198 is Halo.

BigQuote|In Fall of Reach, the Covenant go to Sigmas Octans 4 to steal the mineral rocks that have start charts on them. One of those had the starts leading to Halo's loaction. So when it came time for Cortana to make a random ecaspe jump from Reach she selected the star chart that the Covenant got from the rock samples. She did this becuase she wanted to know what the Covenant wanted there.

Threshold and Basis are named because the system was surveyed, though not visited, by Earth astromomers. It says in the book that Threshold is known as "Earth Survey Catalogue Number B1008-AG". So the UNSC knew about the star system and planets, but not Halo....

We need to get that Sybex guide. Until then, we can cite HBO as a source. --Dragonclaws(talk) 17:40, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Googling "b1008.ag" turned up this PDF of the relevant chapter. --Andrew Nagy 22:31, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Hey Guys, Im Drone Guy. I think this article is good, why do you want to get rid of it?
