Design[edit]

Could this not be the same type of warship as the Unidentified frigate? Lord Hierarch (talk) 15:13, 4 October 2013 (EDT)Lord Hierarch

No. They do not share the same design. --Xamikaze330 [Transmission|Commencing] 15:17, 4 October 2013 (EDT)Xamikaze330

Actually, according to the most recent Knowledge Drop they are...somehow. I think the intention was that the model meshes that made it into the game were meant to be placeholder for more detailed models, which never made it into the game? Which means that the Strident has the canonical appearance of the Spartan Ops ships still. If I'm wrong in this assumption, someone please correct me. -- Qura 'Morhek The Autocrat of Morheka 23:34, 14 May 2014 (EDT)

To my knowledge, the ships weren't going to be more detailed for Battlegroup Dakota, and they were meant to be background ships only. I don't think it was anticipated that folks would break out of the map and fly up next to them and see how low-resolution they are. The Strident-class from Spartan Ops was likely an attempt to make the Dakota frigate a more detailed model, incorporating some but not all of the newer Forward Unto Dawn design. The result though is the Dakota frigate and the Spartan Ops frigate only have a passing resemblance but are now intended to be one in the same design. The biggest issue is the number of engines in the back is different. -ScaleMaster117 (talk) 07:41, 15 May 2014 (EDT)

Confirmed to be Strident-class Heavy Frigate[edit]

This class is said to be part of the Strident-class in the most recent Halo Bulletin, any chance this will be merged with the Strident-class Heavy Frigate page? (Source: https://blogs.halowaypoint.com/en-us/blogs/headlines/posts/the-halo-bulletin-5-14-14 Knowledge Drop: Community Q&A section) --1-10 (talk) 21:25, 14 May 2014 (EDT)

Support.svg Support - Yeah, I always thought they were the same, but now it is seemingly confirmed. The differences between the two classes could possibly be due to the fact that 343i did not intend for the players to really examine the ships. - NightHammer (talk) 21:31, 14 May 2014 (EDT)
Comment Picture.png Comment Now should we merge the Talk Pages for the two as well? --1-10 (talk) 21:44, 14 May 2014 (EDT)
Support.svg Support Forgot to do this as well --1-10 (talk) 21:49, 14 May 2014 (EDT)
Yes, it's best to consider it a low-rez version of the Strident model even though it came first. I was hoping I could use these class names in my scale chart update happening hopefully soon. I had the silhouettes and was waiting on 343i to give me the go-ahead to use the names in the chart. I really didn't want to use the game's mesh names (t_unsc_ship_01, t_unsc_ship_02, and t_unsc_ship_03). The other two ships from Dakota were to be in the Visual Guide, but this mesh was not going to be in it as the Strident already had its own page and higher resolution images made for the Spartan Ops cutscenes. -ScaleMaster117 (talk) 22:47, 14 May 2014 (EDT)

Sub-ships[edit]

Is there any evidence that the frigates carried by the Infinity are designated only as sub-vessels, or that they have names of their own? -- Qura 'Morhek The Autocrat of Morheka 20:59, 29 May 2014 (EDT)

For precedent, the only named vessel so far would be, the UNSC Strident, the class vessel. We've not been made aware of any of the individual ships carried along with Infinity. They're full frigates that would need full crews to operate them. There's no reason to believe they are not also individually named with their own registry numbers like all other UNSC ships. -ScaleMaster117 (talk) 21:24, 29 May 2014 (EDT)
