Talk:79th Infantry Battalion

From Halopedia, the Halo wiki

Kinda odd for the Marine Corps to use a unit naming structure such as this, since infantry battalions in the UNSC Marine Corps aren't named any differently between each other (i.e. 1st Battalion 12th Marines from Reach). Did this reprint of The Flood specifically state that the 79th Battalion was a Marine unit? If not, then it is likely an Army reserve unit as the regular Army forces use a similar naming style to the Marines. Anyways, thanks! User:CommanderTony/Sig

Don't worry, that's not an I.P. address "forging my signature" above. User:CommanderTony/Sig
Yeah, I just realized it isn't really specified to be a Marine unit in particular. I just automatically assumed that since we haven't heard of Army units aboard the Autumn before. Beside reserve units, there might also be Army forces who were evacuated onboard the ship from the nearby area once they realized Reach was lost. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 10:11, 16 December 2010 (EST)
I wouldn't be surprised if a few Army personnel "snuck" their way onto the Pillar of Autumn. I don't think Captain Keyes and Sergeant Major Johnson would be too picky about letting additional personnel come along. User:CommanderTony/Sig
However because you say Handful of survivors does that mean they might have been some that escape in canon status or a possible way off the ring though most people where killed, except John-117, Linda-058, ONI Lieutenant Haverson, Warrant Officer Polaski, Staff Sergeant Johnson, Staff Sergeant Stacker, Corporal Locklear, Private First Class Dubbo, survived though, is it possible to say a handful or some that of this unit did survive or escape with Stacker and Dubbo in canon status? No. Marines like Stacker or Dubbo use similar voices across the games for variety, they (with the currently sole confirmed exception of Johnson) do not represent canon people. We can't say there were other survivors until we see there were other survivors in a canon source. -- Qura 'Morhek The Autocrat of Morheka 05:03, 26 August 2015 (EDT)
