Background[edit]

This image was reverted to its original transparent background, meaning that the covenant page will display it with a grey background. I understand that this image has no official background but it surely is not grey. White is closer to transparent. You can't display it as having a grey background on the covenant page just because it is aesthetically appealing, if it doesn't have any official background. White is the closest thing to no background (i.e.) blank.--Ender the Xenocide 08:30, 5 December 2010 (EST)

All logos on Halopedia are transparent to show just the object in question. For example, the ONI logo is against a blue background on its respective page, officially is the ONI logo's background color blue? No, but we still post just the logo on no background just to show the logo. The same thing is being applied to the Covenant logo, we are just showing the logo and nothing else. And before you ask the same thing will soon apply to the UNSC logo on its respective page. Durandal-217 12:52, 5 December 2010 (EST)
Actually, you can just change the background colour by simply adding the colour hex in the image field... >.> - 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 13:09, 5 December 2010 (EST)

Origin[edit]

Where exactly was this symbol used? --Dragonclaws(talk) 21:42, 2 December 2011 (EST)

The symbol was first seen on all the Covenant vehicles in Halo: Combat Evolved. Durandal-217 15:20, 3 December 2011 (EST)
Okay. --Dragonclaws(talk) 20:50, 3 December 2011 (EST)

Usage[edit]

So how come we use this image Halo1 - Covenant Symbol.png to represent the Covenant on its own page, but we use HaloWars-CovenantSymbol.png to represent them on the Main Page and era tags? Tuckerscreator(stalk) 22:05, 30 March 2012 (EDT)

Maybe for variety.-- Col. Spartacus Talk Page Contributions Contact 00:32, 31 March 2012 (EDT)
Mostly because people recognise the latter (well... it's purple and more Covenant-ish) than the former, even though, as you said, the former is the symbol of the Covenant Empire.— subtank 06:46, 31 March 2012 (EDT)
Hm, well I notice that the glyph has often appeared on vehicles like the Ghost since Combat Evolved, but often in altered form. It even appears on the Halo Wars Ghost even though that game already has its own symbol for the Covenant Empire. That leads me to believe that this may not be the symbol for the Covenant, it may just be a glyph like they commonly put on their soldiers and vehicles, since it's altered in recent games, and appears when a new symbol for the Covenant explicitly appears. Tuckerscreator(stalk) 12:19, 31 March 2012 (EDT)

Just like to bring up this argument again. I don't think this is the symbol for the Covenant if it only appears on vehicles and is different every game. Tuckerscreator(stalk) 16:53, 31 January 2013 (EST)

Nobody cares? Tuckerscreator(stalk) 21:29, 31 January 2013 (EST)
Actually, I do care. So what if it only appears on Covenant vehicles? Doesn't matter. I suggest we leave it as is. --Xamikaze330 (talk|contribs) 23:04, 31 January 2013 (EST)Xamikaze330

But that is important. What is the proof that it's the symbol for the Covenant? It could just be another random glyph that means "vehicle" just like how the Elites and Hunters have glyphs on their armor. Tuckerscreator(stalk) 00:19, 1 February 2013 (EST)

Honestly, I don't think the Covenant ever has a symbol that represents the entire faction. It is possible that the uploader of the file mistook Loftus' filename for the image as a definite identifier of what it represents (which is the likely reason). If anything, I would suggest removing it from the article (or at the very least place it under the Ghost article) until we have concrete evidence. Also, should've wait for another month and we could've a discussion anniversary! :P — subtank 00:21, 1 February 2013 (EST)

Logo: Discussion Evolved Anniversary! Anyway, that seems reasonable. And the Halo Wars symbol could replace it. We know that one definitely means the Covenant as a whole. Tuckerscreator(stalk) 00:25, 1 February 2013 (EST)

Or that it represents Regret's forces (or the Prophet's forces) and not the entire Covenant. Mind you, all three Prophets have different goals (though Mercy backs up Truth, but that's besides the point). Best to leave it empty in the infobox.— subtank 00:31, 1 February 2013 (EST)

Well, the UNSC logo is used in the multiplayer lobby to represent human forces, not merely those under Captain Cutter's command, otherwise it'd use this. It seems simpler to say it means the Covenant, and the logo doesn't switch upon selecting different Covenant leaders. It represents them all collectively. Tuckerscreator(stalk) 00:41, 1 February 2013 (EST)

On the other hand, the current image for the Halo Wars logo is far too small. It'd need to be made bigger. I've tried scaling it up but can't get it to sharpen very well. Never mind, I've done some editing to make it scale better. It could still use some sharpening, but works for now. Tuckerscreator(stalk) 02:21, 1 February 2013 (EST)

Looks... bad. :/
This shows my point, that UNSC leaders use the SoF symbol and Covenant leaders use Regret's symbol. If anything, for every Covenant victory in any match, it would display the Prophet symbol without the purple background. Again, as I said before, it is more likely that the current symbol you placed in the Covenant article is only exclusive to forces under the authority of Regret. I suggest going along with my previous proposal, that is to leave the image field in the infobox empty.— subtank 04:08, 1 February 2013 (EST)

Huh, wasn't aware of that. Makes sense, since the logo does bears lot of resemblance to a Prophet's ornaments. Unless someone knows of a counterpoint to this, then I'll take it down. Tuckerscreator(stalk) 05:04, 1 February 2013 (EST)
