Overview
UNSC Army Rangers serve as long-range scouts, deploying sniper teams to observe the enemy and place sensors behind enemy lines to provide intelligence to UNSC forces.[1] Rangers also specialise in counterinsurgency operations and organizing resistance groups on occupied worlds, though during the Human-Covenant War this task was made difficult by the Covenant's reluctance to take and hold ground when it could simply glass targets from orbit.[1] After the war's conclusion, the Rangers have transitioned back to their more traditional scout role, working with Spartan teams against local criminal elements, pirate or mercenary raiders, and other threats.[1]
