Talk:Rebirth

From Halopedia, the Halo wiki

Marontik and Djamonkin Crater = New Mombasa??

In a part of the epilogue, the Forerunners and their ships are "near where Marontik was" and "a huge Forerunner artifact" is there, half buried. Whereas the latter description matches the Portal seen in Halo 3, and that Marontik was between two rivers, I think Marontik and the Djamonkin Crater were close to what would be New Mombasa. Which brings me to another conjecture: Could it be what the Prophet of Truth and the Huragok discovered at the legendary ending of Halo 3: ODST was a tunnel to where the Ur-Didact's first Cryptum was? --They're coming. I did consider the same thing, but in Primordium, it's noted that Marontik was located deep inland and Chakas had never seen an ocean, which rules out Mombasa. It's likely to be somewhere in Africa, though what Forerunners consider nearby could extend to a pretty wide radius. Such as another location with two great rivers, also often considered to be the cradle of civilization - Mesopotamia. Primordium also gives another hint at Marontik's location: Mara used to live "not so far" from where Chakas was born, and Gigantopithecus fossils have been found in modern-day China, India and Vietnam - again, the distance is vaguely defined, but the general area is sufficiently close to be comfortably understood as being near ancient Mesopotamia. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 02:30, 30 June 2013 (EDT)

Name

Was this ever officially called Halo: Rebirth? On Waypoint it's just called Rebirth. I'm not saying the current name isn't real, maybe I just don't know where it was mentioned. But thus far, I thought the name was just Rebirth. Adding "Halo:" before the media's name makes it sound like it's the official name. Imrane-117 (talk) 19:24, 21 July 2013 (EDT)

Erik/Chloe

This may be the first time Halopedia has needed to determine this, so how should we refer to Greg Bear's transgender daughter Chloe who was still identifying as Erik at the time Rebirth was written?TheEld (talk) 16:25, May 26, 2019 (EDT)TheEld

Ok I wont lie that is a really good question. One we should really discuss cause as the franchise progresses we probably will encounter a few times.
At the moment however I may recommend following Wikipedias several Manual of styles on Identity till we can get a internal Manual of Style written up for Halopedia.
The only thing 100% we should not remove/change is the "Transcript". For better or worse they are stated as "Erik" there. If a future version is released with the updated name. The newest version will be used with the old name being relegated to trivia. (Which is a possibility actually with Silentium getting a 2019 edition).-CIA391 (talk) 14:30, May 27, 2019 (EDT)
At certain times we need to understand the value of knowledge; Is it noteworthy, is it pertinent to the topic at hand, and so forth. Someone’s name can be an intensely personal matter. Trans individuals incur considerable distress having their chosen name ridiculed or totally disregarded, with their birth or “dead” name being maliciously held over their head even years after transitioning.
Wikipedia is not the example to look towards. Their administrators and contributors are notoriously overzealous in maintaining a manual of style that emphasizes identities which the subject themselves don’t acknowledge. Curating knowledge is nothing without a good sense of a subject’s minutiae. Not everything can be approached with purely analytical approach.
Her name’s Chloe Bear. If she’s like most trans females, myself included, she never willingly identify as male, she merely couldn’t speak the truth. So, indeed, she was published on Halo: Rebirth with her deadname. If you find it absolutely pertinent to provide such information, do it without emphasis. Adding a long-winded production note isn’t necessary. To be frank, the Halo community has absolutely been intolerant towards all manner of queer and trans people, and we don’t need to make things worse. Helianthus All right. Shoot!
Unfortunately we cant just change that "Audio" thing Waypoint distributed awhile back (the issue being we do things Verbatim, which may include outdated and wrong information). And as that said "Erik" in it, the best we can do to lower confusion is by adding a note (which I did) stating it was done prior to the name change.
However a page on Chloe Bear is long overdue anyway seeing as she co-wrote this story and we kinda are meant to have author pages on the wiki.-CIA391 (talk) 18:43, May 28, 2019 (EDT)
