After the Covenant had defeated UNSC ground forces, they didn't take any prisoners. The Covenant herded civilian survivors together and were torn apart by ravenous Grunts and Jackals. The Spartan-IIs watched all of this through satellite linkup and were sent to rescue any remaining civilians. By the time the Spartans got there, there were no survivors. The Spartan-II's proceeded to eliminate the Covenant forces. It was a battle that left Spartan 117, John, scarred because of all the horrible losses.[1]
