The Basalt Maze was a location on X50, the moon of Draetheus V. It consisted of a collection of thousands of spiked rock formations protruding from X50's thick ice, south of a Forerunner structure. The Covenant's supply lines ran straight through the Maze to set up more defenses around the Forerunner structure during the Battle of Draetheus V. Spartan Edward Davis distracted Covenant forces, while UNSC engineers attempted to render the Forerunner structure inert.[1]
