Admiral

Admiral is a senior commissioned officer rank of the UNSC Navy, equal in rank to General in the UNSC Marine Corps, UNSC Air Force, and UNSC Army. It is immediately below the rank of Fleet Admiral, the highest known UNSC Naval rank.

Title

While Admiral is a rank of its own, the title "Admiral" is often used to refer to any of the flag officer ranks of the UNSC Navy:

• Fleet Admiral
• Admiral
• Vice Admiral
• Rear Admiral (Upper Half)
• Rear Admiral (Lower Half)

Due to the ambiguity of the title "Admiral", Admirals are often known as a "Four Star Admiral" or "Full Admiral" to distinguish it from subordinate ranks of Admiral. The term "Four Star Admiral" comes from the rank insignia worn upon the uniform.

Trivia

• It is likely that during the conflict against the Covenant, the UNSC was drained of high ranking officers over time, with notable exceptions of Danforth Whitcomb and Lord Terrence Hood. It is safe to presume that the quality of officers could more than likely have declined gradually as the wore waged on, as training could have been shortened due to the needs brought on by the war.
• It could also be thought that the losses suffered by Humanity during the war, could have been caused by the contributing factor of ill-trained Commanding Naval Officers
