When Saladin reclaimed the city, instead of killing all the Christians as the Christians had feared, he spared all Christian lives, and he didn't desecrate the Christian relics (like the Christians had done when they first invaded Jerusalem). Saladin then summoned the Jews and permitted them to resettle in the city.
