Peter Allen David (September 23, 1956 - May 24, 2025) was an acclaimed bestselling American author and the writer of the Halo comic Halo: Helljumper and the novel Halo: Hunters in the Dark.
Background[edit]
Peter David wrote for comic books, novels, television, films and video games over a career spanning nearly four decades. He jokingly described his occupation as "writer of stuff". David was noted for his prolific writing and was well known for his work in Marvel Comics, DC Comics, and Star Trek novels. Originally from Fort Meade, Maryland, David grew up in Bloomfield, New Jersey and lived in New York with his wife and four children. He remained active in the comics industry until his passing in May 2025.[1]
In 2010, Peter David appeared alongside 343 Industries at San Diego Comic-Con as part of the Halo Universe Panel, which featured fellow novelists Greg Bear and Karen Traviss, as well as other creatives involved in expanding the Halo franchise like Frank O'Connor, Eric Raab, and Kevin Grace. During the panel, David expressed that the fun and invigorating aspect of writing for the Halo universe was knowing that all of his contributions were canonical, adding that it was deeply satisfying to be part of something larger than himself.[2]
