==Design details====
The ''Emmeline'' was a sizable transport with an enclosed flight deck separated from the main cabin and troop bay by various internal hatches, and it required only a small crew to operate. From the flight deck, the crew was able to depressurize compartments individually. Its troop bay was large enough to hold at least 300 [[human]] passengers, and it could be accessed externally via loading ramp.{{Ref/Reuse|HSS13}} The ''Emmeline'' featured at least one airlock to allow other ships to dock and exchange passengers. Various pale-blue passageways and junctions wound through the vessel, connecting compartments to one another. Toward the front of the transport was a forward briefing compartment with rows of cushioned seating and a large screen used for presentations positioned on the wall they all faced. ===United Rebel Front===
By [[2526#March|March 2526]], the ''Emmeline'' was in service with the [[United Rebel Front]] and stationed on [[Seoba]], the ice-covered third [[natural satellite|moon]] of the [[Outer Colonies|Outer Colony]] of [[Biko]]. Given the vessel's role as an infantry transport, the [[insurrectionist]]s presumably planned to use the ''Emmeline'' in their plot to overthrow Biko's chancellor ahead of the [[Covenant]]'s arrival. When [[Task Force Yama]] arrived at Seoba on [[2526#March|March 18]] to ready themselves for the aliens as well, they discovered the insurgents hiding in [[Seoba Ice Quarry|an ice quarry]] and [[Battle of Seoba|attacked]]. Ultimately, the [[UNSC]] won the battle and captured the ''Emmeline'', planning to use it to transport roughly three hundred prisoners back to Biko for processing.{{Ref/Reuse|HSS13}}

===UNSC capture===
For the purpose of transporting hostile prisoners, the ''Emmeline''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s internal hatches leading to the troop bay had been sealed from the other side. Also, the escape pods were set so that they could only be armed from the flight deck. If the prisoners attempted a breakout, the troop bay could be depressurized to kill them. [[Lieutenant Commander]] [[Hector Nyeto]] of [[Ghost Flight]] provided a small flight crew to man the ''Emmeline''. However, unbeknownst to the rest of Task Force Yama, Nyeto and all who served under him were secretly aligned with the insurrectionist cause.{{Ref/Reuse|HSS13}}

When a Covenant [[Bloodstar Flotilla|flotilla]] arrived in-system on [[2526#March|March 19]], [[Colonel]] [[Marmon Crowther]] assigned [[John-117]] and his compatriots to guard the prisoners and get them loaded into the ''Emmeline'', not wanting to send the [[SPARTAN-II program|Spartans]] into battle after discovering their distressingly young ages.{{Ref/Novel|Id=HSS11|HSS|Chapter=11}} The insurrectionist prisoners—loyal to many different factions, from the [[Biko Independence Army]] to the [[Gao Liberation Force]]—were gathered in [[Subsurface Maintenance Grotto 6M430]] and directed to board the ''Emmeline'' via its loading ramp.{{Ref/Reuse|HSS13}}

As the Spartans urged the prisoners up the ramp, John-117 noticed a group of insurgents trying to conceal the presence of one who was clearly an officer. John knew that the [[Office of Naval Intelligence]] would want to interrogate such a high-ranking member of the URF, so he ordered the line of prisoners to halt. Using his [[MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor|MJOLNIR]]'s onboard computer, he checked the identity of the individual, who turned out to be [[General]] [[Harper Garvin]], and called him forward. After a failed attempt by [[Petora Zoyas|another rebel]] to stall, Garvin complied. While the prisoners resumed their boarding of the ''Emmeline'', Garvin attempted to work some details about the Spartans out of John, who was busy listening Task Force Yama's command [[COM|channel]]. In the process of launching to meet the Covenant threat, [[Captain (NAVCOM)|Captain]] [[Halima Ascot]]'s [[prowler]], the {{UNSCShip|Starry Night}} had been shot down, crashing into the quarry. [[Plasma]] bombardment began to shake the grotto, injuring some of the prisoners with falling ice. John ordered the rest to carry their wounded into the ''Emmeline'', warning that anyone who delayed would die in the quarry.{{Ref/Reuse|HSS13}}

Continuing to listen to the command channel, John could tell that Crowther would be unable to send any of [[21st Space Assault Battalion|his men]] to the ''Starry Night''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s crash site, and that he did not want to risk another prowler to investigate either. Not wanting to give up on Captain Ascot and her crew, or allow the Covenant access to a prowler, John decided that he and his teammates would instead go after the ''Starry Night''. After telling Garvin to rejoin his people, he informed ''Emmeline''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s pilot that she and her flight crew would be leaving without them. When the pilot protested to launching without the Spartans to watch the prisoners, John rebuked her and reminded her to follow flight deck isolation protocols, which included depressurizing the troop bay if necessary. With that, the Spartans left the grotto.{{Ref/Reuse|HSS13}}

===Interception===
A few minutes after the Spartans left in search of the ''Starry Night'', the ''Emmeline'' was ready to depart. The transport's temporary crew announced their departure over the command channel and took off from the maintenance grotto, passing low over the Spartans' heads as they made their way toward the projected crash site of Ascot's prowler. The jet wash of the ''Emmeline'' briefly disrupted the dense sublimation fog enshrouding the quarry floor, allowing the Spartans a glimpse of the surrounding walls of ice. As the transport crested the edge of the quarry pit, it was fired upon by five Covenant vessels.{{Ref/Reuse|HSS14}} However, none of the shots landed.{{Ref/Novel|Id=HSS17|HSS|Chapter=17}}

The ''Emmeline'' did not leave Seoba's orbit until the battle was over, despite being ordered to take the prisoners to Biko immediately. As the [[Battle of Biko]] began a few hours later, it finally began moving to break orbit. The {{UNSCShip|Black Widow}} detected the transport and recorded this on one of its combat cameras. This information was quickly passed on to Colonel Crowther aboard the {{UNSCShip|Vanishing Point}}.{{Ref/Reuse|HSS17}}

As [[Sacred Whisper|one]] of the Covenant's [[intrusion corvette]]s fled Seoba, the ''Emmeline''{{'}}s insurrectionist pilots chased after it, attempting to get its attention. Eventually, [[Sangheili First Blade officer|First Blade]] [[Tel 'Szatulai]] realized what they intended and boarded the transport along with two [[Jiralhanae]] [[Bloodstars]] as escorts. The three of them boarded the ''Emmeline'' via its airlock. As the pressure within the airlock equalized, a group of insurgents waited within the first compartment, with their rifles trained on the hatch. When it opened and the three aliens stepped out, one of the humans welcomed 'Szatulai aboard and told him that General Harper Garvin was waiting in the transport's forward briefing compartment, waving his gun barrel in the general direction. However, the [[Sangheili]] did not move and only looked at the man's rifle, which was still pointed straight at him. After a moment, the insurgent realized what he wanted and ordered everyone in the compartment to lower their weapons. When only half of those present complied immediately, the man yelled at them. Once every gun was lowered, 'Szatulai and his escorts, [[Orsun]] and [[Castor]], followed the man along the vessel's corridors and junctions. At one of the junctions, an insurgent stood recording the aliens with a [[data pad]]. 'Szatulai simply pointed at the device and Orsun smashed it, sending its holder limp and bloodied into the insurgents behind him.{{Ref/Reuse|HSS18}}

Once the group reached the briefing compartment, they found a panicked man named [[Erland Booth]] holding a captured [[HAVOK tactical nuclear weapon]]. The other insurrectionists present in the room were all focused on him, some with their weapons drawn. When the 'Szatulai's party had boarded the ''Emmeline'', Booth had taken the [[nuclear weapon]] and armed it, preparing to threaten the aliens in hopes that they would call off their assault on Biko. 'Szatulai determined that the insurgent would not back down and approached Booth, sweeping the nuke out of his hands and using it to cave in his skull. [[Petora Zoyas]], one of the insurgents who had been training her weapon on Booth, rushed over and offered to help disarm the nuke. However, it would be General Garvin who managed to defuse it roughly thirty seconds before detonation. Garvin then offered 'Szatulai the HAVOK nuke as a token of the insurrectionists' goodwill and explained that he had not known about the UNSC's plans to occupy Seoba. He also presented the Sangheili with a [[data card]] containing schematics of the [[MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor]] worn by the Spartans. With that, he promised more intel on the supersoldiers if the Covenant helped them take control of Biko. 'Szatulai accepted the deal and took Zoyas back to the ''Sacred Whisper'' so that he could use her to communicate with the insurgents in the future.{{Ref/Reuse|HSS18}}
