"If Halo cannot kill them, it must imprison them."
— Grand Edict to Despondent Pyre[1]

The Endless were an advanced race that were imprisoned by the Forerunners on Installation 07 by 97,368 BCE due to their ability to survive the effects of the Halo Array. They were freed by Atriox during the Installation 07 conflict in 2560.

History

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Background

The Endless originated in an unknown location at an unknown point in time. They were not indexed by the Forerunners prior to the firing of the Halo Array and once the Halo rings were fired, they survived, to great confusion. During the century after the firing, they were discovered by the Forerunners and deemed a threat by them and imprisoned on Installation 07 to study and learn their secrets such as how they survived the effects of the Halo Array, to be "forgotten by time" and so as to not let "time become a construct that they could control" with the Installation's monitor 117649 Despondent Pyre being charged to watch over their prison. They were considered such a threat that the Criterium gave the order for Offensive Bias to be deployed against them should they ever be freed.

Return

In 2560, the Endless were freed by Atriox during the Installation 07 conflict.
