I can't confirm this, but I have reason to believe that the Time Travel Glitch actually damages your disc. When you Time Travel, you are basically loading an entire section of a map that is stored on another part of the disc. This sudden loading forces the drive laser and the disc to quickly jump to another section of the disc which explains the brief pause while Time Traveling. A few jumps with Time Traveling won't cause any noticable damage to your disc, but after several hundred jumps, your disc may start being scratched or even cracked. Side-effects[edit]

I have tried this glitch numerous times, and i found some cool effects on The Covenant. First, you don't need a Prowler, the Ghost is actually better at this because of the Speed Boost. If you back into the void, then go back to the scarab area, there are 2 very weird effects as follows:

  1. All the Brutes are hovering, and there are no vehicles or sniper towers.
  2. Even though the voice in your radio says, "2 Scarabs! I repeat, 2 scarabs!", the Scarabs do not drop down, and you may immediately enter the Citadel.

These effects are mentioned in the Aftereffects section. And I have a theory as to how they work:
  • I think that the game has spawn points set for enemies -- things like Brutes and Grunts. These spawn points activate no matter how you enter the area.
  • And I think that some sound effects are coded into the map itself -- that is, there are fixed locations embedded in the map, not the scripting, that trigger the sounds when passed.
  • However, certain other objects -- generally including drivable vehicles as well as movable structures like Deployable Lookout Towers and Scarab Tanks -- have to be scripted to appear, and I think that this scripting is either carried out or prepared when you pass through the loading point...
