Hestia V, with its moon of Meridian in the foreground

The Hestia system is a planetary system that has at least five orbiting planets, including the gas giant Hestia V which is in turn orbited by Meridian and at least six other natural satellites. Meridian was colonized by humanity as an Outer Colony and the system was governed by the Unified Earth Government in 2431.[1] Meridian was attacked by the Covenant in 2548 and was eventually glassed in 2551 during the Battle of Meridian, after UNSC Navy forces at Meridian were forced to retreat to the edge of the Hestia system.[2]

Trivia

The planetary system is named after Hestia, the Greek goddess of the hearth, family, and domestic life. Her Roman equivalent is Vesta, which is also the name of an AI.
