Gearbox Software is a video game developer founded by Randy Pitchford, Stephen Bahl, Landon Montgomery, Brian Martel, and Rob Heironimus in January 1999. They are best known for a number of high-profile PC and console game games such as Brothers In Arms: Road to Hill 30, Brothers In Arms: Earned in Blood, and the Half-Life expansions Opposing Force,Gordy's Mod and Blue Shift.

Gearbox was also responsible for the PC port of Halo: Combat Evolved. They are also responsible for the making of Halo: Custom Edition. They have worked on the Brothers in Arms series and are currently developing Borderlands and an Aliens FPS. It is also said they are working on a Halo-related project,widely rumored to be Halo 4 for Microsoft's next Xbox console. Some believe that Gearbox Software worked with Bungie and Microsoft to make Halo:Combat Evolved PC and Halo:Custom Editon.The Map Editing Kit was created by Gearbox and pass downed to other selected websites. Now, there's not really much productivity of The Map Editing Kit.

Gearbox Software is located in Plano, near Dallas, Texas.
