Summary
Sam-034 was a Spartan in Halo: The Fall of Reach. He and John-117 were friends along with Kelly-087. John latter commented that sam had been his "best and only" friend. Sam, keppy, and John were assigned to be a team on the first day of their SPARTAN training. Sam was then seen as John's second in command. Upon his death, this position was apparently reoccupied by Fredric-104.
In 2525 he was wounded on a Covenant ship above Sigma Octanus IV by a Jackal's charged plasma bolt and had a hole burned in his armor. He could not leave the Covenant ship because of the injury. He stayed and died taking as many as he could with him even though the mission was to plant a Shiva nuke in the ship and detonate it. John and Kelly left the ship unharmed but saddened by the loss of a fellow Spartan. He had been the first Spartan to die in combat.
