Dog Tags are simple devices that have been used by Marines for centuries, and the tradition has continued with the Marine forces of the UNSC.

Dog Tags are simple metal plates attatched to necklaces. Each and every Marine has them, and usually wears them around the neck in combat situations. The purpose of the dog tag is to provide information, such as name, religion, and blood type, should the marine be injured and need treatment. They are also traditinally taken off of the bodies of dead marines in combat zones to identify the dead marine without having to mule his body along.
