Talk:Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force

From Halopedia, the Halo wiki

I'm not comfortable with our use of United States Air Force insignia in this article. While this rank has the same name as the real life CMSAF rank, I find it extremely unlikely that the UNSC would use the same insignia, especially when we remember that it contains the Great Seal of one member nation, it being a multinational force and all.--The All-knowing Sith'ari 16:54, 11 June 2011 (EDT)

While I agree that the UNSC Defense Forces should replace just the more American features of insignia like 13 stars, red and white stripes, etc., they nonetheless have used it many times in the Halo universe. Lord Hood's cap device is an exact recreation of those seen on modern U.S. Navy officer covers, as well as some uniforms seen or described for the UNSC Marine Corps. There's nothing wrong with using the overall design, but for that shield in the middle of Lord Hood's cap device, they should have replaced it with a UN Blue background and a white UN emblem. So unfortunately, until we have high-resolution copies of these ranks, we'll have to use their modern equivalents as that's what we've been told that they use and witnessed such. May I suggest that we simply don't use this particular insignia, along with the insigne for the SMA and the SgtMajMC, at all? While it's been more or less confirmed that the UNSC does use these ranks, whether they use the same insignia has not. I'm all for keeping images of rank insigne with non-national emblems, however (i.e.: Most of them).--The All-knowing Sith'ari 17:34, 11 June 2011 (EDT)
There's no reason to single them out for the time being. User:CommanderTony/Sig
