22nd ODST bn[edit]
Is there any proof that this is an ODST battalion? --ED 22:08, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
- And while we're at it, is there any proof that this is even a battalion at all? It seems unlikely that Cortana would order an entire battalion to rendezvous with a platoon. ΘяɪɸɴF22 Talk Contributions CAG 14:16, June 17, 2010 (UTC)
- In Halo: Campaign Evolved Terminal Arrival the unit is listed as the being the 22nd Tactical of the 105th Shock Troops Division. Repeated throughout Halo: The Flood, the unit is referred to as a battalion. Halo: Warfleet – An Illustrated Guide to the Spacecraft of Halo puts the 22nd Tactical at 400 ODSTs, which, according to the Halo Encyclopedia (2022 edition), is between the normal sizes of a company (190) and a battalion (900) in the UNSC Marine Corps. Also, Cortana orders 14th Platoon to rendezvous with the 22nd Tactical, not the other way around. - AkridHunter10 10:38, August 31, 2026 (UTC)
Should Johnson, Stacker, and Dubbo be added as personnel?[edit]
During the Battle of New Mombasa, Battle of Installation 05, and the Battle of the Citadel, GYSGT Stacker was an ODST of the 105th Shock Troops Division's 7th Shock Troops Battalion. During the Battle of Installation 05, PFC Dubbo also served as an ODST of the 7th Shock Troops Battalion. SGTMAJ Johnson, prior to the Fall of Reach, served in the 11th Marine Force Reconnaissance/ODST and, during the Battle of Installation 05, was going to deploy alongside the 7th Shock Troops Battalion in a drop pod wearing Marine armor. Shouldn't they have been assigned to the 22nd Tactical as a result of all 3 being ODSTs? Landing in lifeboats doesn't exclude them from being ODSTs either, since only 216 drop pods were onboard the UNSC Pillar of Autumn, meaning 184 ODSTs had to find alternative ways to evacuate the cruiser. Not wearing ODST armor also doesn't exclude them from being ODSTs either, as the ODSTs in Halo: The Flood are never described as wearing black ODST armor; during the Capture of Alpha Base, the ODSTs of B Company are described as wearing green Marine armor. Throughout the novel, the ODSTs also never wear fully enclosed helmets. In Halo: Fireteam Raven the only ODSTs seen wearing ODST armor are Fireteam Raven and MAJ Silva, while all of B Company seen in the level Rubble are wearing green Marine armor. GYSGT Stacker, SSGT Banks, and PFC Dubbo are all shown going into combat in green Marine armor and black ODST armor in Halo 2, and GYSGT Stacker again wears both in Halo 3. In Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, GYSGT Stacker's character is used as the stand-in for both GYSGT Waller and SGT Parker, who are both specifically stated to be ODSTs in the 2003 edition of Halo: The Flood. SGTMAJ Johnson is also a potential stand-in for SGT Parker in Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, and is the stand-in for SGT Parker in Halo: Campaign Evolved. I mean, they all wear the same 22nd Tactical uniform, are all qualified ODSTs, and it doesn't make sense for them to be assigned to the 79th Infantry Battalion. The ODSTs of the 22nd Tactical consistently refer to each other as Marines throughout Halo: The Flood, and the ODSTs are a part of the UNSCMC, so SGTMAJ Johnson calling those around him "Marine" doesn't rule out them being ODSTs. Halopedia also considers SGT Parker's Fireteam Charlie and SGTMAJ Johnson's Fireteam Charlie to be the same unit. So, should SGTMAJ Johnson, GYSGT Stacker, and PFC Dubbo all be added to the personnel list for the 22nd Tactical? - AkridHunter10 23:37, August 31, 2026 (UTC)
- The Marines encountered in gameplay are not ODSTs, they are part of Autumn's regular Marine complement. This is something that has been established in the 2010 Definitive Edition of The Flood, and reinforced again with the upcoming 2026 Omnibus reissue. BaconShelf (talk) 08:14, September 1, 2026 (UTC)
Fall of Reach Participation[edit]
During the Fall of Reach, ODST || 22, a battalion-sized element of the ODSTs, was deployed to the Viery Territory to combat the forces of the Fleet of Valiant Prudence on August 12, 2552. I believe this battalion is the 22nd Tactical.
Evidence to Support:
- The 105th Shock Troops Division was active in the Highland Mountains of Eposz. We know this from ODST MPs encountered by MCPO John-117 at the UNSC Military Reservation 01478-B when he tested his MJOLNIR Mk V PAA suit on August 29, 2552.
- ODST || 22 is the same map symbol as would be used by the 22nd Tactical, and was advancing to the Highland Mountains on August 12, 2552.
- Victor Ramos was on the surface of Reach as it was being glassed and watched buildings collapse. You can't watch buildings collapse from space, especially when the UNSC Pillar of Autumn wasn't over Eposz when it was being glassed by the Ministry of Resolution fleet and the Fleet of Valiant Prudence, it was over Lábatlan. The crew of the UNSC Pillar of Autumn was still unaware of the ongoing invasion of Reach and was not in contact with the surface on August 30, 2552. R. Abiad, who lived in New Alexandria, was unaware on August 30 that the city was glassed a week ago. The only way Ramos could have seen buildings collapse is if he was in Eposz before the Battle of Asźod.
- On August 27th, Operation: RED FLAG was green-lit, and the 25 SPARTAN-IIs assigned were briefed that same day at the Reach FLEETCOM Complex, in the Highland Mountains, near the last known position of ODST || 22.
- The 22nd Tactical is the only known ODST battalion with the numerical designation of 22, and is subordinate to the 105th Shock Troops Division, which was active in the area the ODST || 22 was sent to.
- Since Operation: RED FLAG wasn't green-lit until August 27th, the 22nd Tactical had to be at least in the Epsilon Eridani System during this time, and it is confirmed by Ramos that they weren't involved with the Battle of Tribute.
We know that the 105th Shock Troops Division was active in the Highland Mountains, ODST || 22 was directed to the Highland Mountains, the only known ODST unit with the numerical designation of 22 is the 22nd Tactical of the 105th Shock Troops Division, both ODST || 22 and the 22nd Tactical are battalions (||) and would use the same map symbol (ODST || 22), and ODSTs of the 22nd Tactical (specifically Victor Ramos) were on the surface of Reach and witnessed the Covenant glassing buildings. They seem to be the same unit. - AkridHunter10 01:06, September 2, 2026 (UTC)
