The M6G2 serves as a modification package for the original M6G pistol design{{Ref/Reuse|Modification}} - though only primarily differs in the placement of its KFA-2 x2 scope, cosmetic finishes and weight.{{Ref/Reuse|Enc22}} It sports the same general design and proportions as the aforementioned version, despite a subtly longer barrel and lack of an underslung attachment. While its rate of fire is only around half that of its predecessor, its accuracy is superior.{{Ref/Reuse|B.netH3}} The top attachment plate's mounting pins are closer to the muzzle. The slide has vertical serrations and a flat rear. The magazine release is set just in front of the safety switch and has a thin, rectangular lip akin to earlier M6 models. The striker is recessed into the slide as on a 21st-century [[Wikipedia:Glock|Glock]]. 

The M6G2 is a semi-automatic, recoil-operated, magazine-fed, large-caliber handgun.  It has a polymer handle, along with a titanium alloy body and an electroless nickel-plate finish, though can be alternately issued in black polymer and hard chrome finishes instead. The sidearm fires the M225 SAP-HE (Semi-Armor Piercing, High Explosive) rounds from an 8-round magazine at a velocity of 427 m/sec (1302.35 ft/sec). The M6G2 is a later model of the M6 series sidearms that was distributed to officers and vehicle/weapon crews{{Ref/Reuse|B.netH3}} - though is nonetheless considered an ideal sidearm for a wide variety of troops.{{Ref/Reuse|Service}} Unlike the UNSC Army's preference of the standard M6G sidearm, the M6G2 was primarily developed for use within the [[UNSC Marine Corps]].{{Ref/Reuse|Enc22}}

==Operational history==
The M6G2 was widely used alongside its regular M6G cousin throughout the [[Human-Covenant War]]. It saw particular usage by Marine forces stationed on [[Earth]] during the [[Battle for Earth]], and later among the forces of {{UNSCShip|Forward Unto Dawn}} during the [[Battle of Installation 00]].{{Ref/Game|H3|[[Magnum]] in-game weapon}} One such weapon was [[Dual wielding|dual-wielded]] alongside an [[M90A shotgun]] by [[Miranda Keyes]] in her attempt to save [[Avery Johnson]] from his capture by the [[Prophet of Truth]].{{Ref/Level|H3|The Covenant (level)|The Covenant}}

*In ''Halo 3'', the stamping on the side of the M6G incorrectly labels it as a [[M6C magnum|Model 6C]].
**The Bungie.Net article blurb however states that the M6G in ''Halo 3'' used a "modification package" of a M6. This would allow the M6C branding to be present on the model.
**Similarly, [[WETA Workshop]]'s M6G prop features the same manufacturer's markings as the ''Halo 3'' model, albeit stenciled instead of engraved. However, the year 2552 is misprinted as 5225.<ref>[[:File:Halo3-M6GPistol-Slide-Replica.jpg|WETA Workshop's M6G replica]]</ref>
*Like the M6D, the ''Halo 3'' M6G has Asian writing stamped on the top of the barrel, but in this case, it is Korean Hangul, not Japanese Kanji. It is also featured on the bottom of the magazine. The word 일곱 (''il-gohb'') translates to the number [[seven]]. Interestingly, the writing is upside down. Looking at the pictures below, you can see that the "ㄹ" letter in "일" is above the "이" when it should be below. 
*In ''Halo 3'', when a full magazine is emptied, the slide of the M6G does not lock back to wait for another fresh magazine to be inserted.
