The sergeant tells them to use ‘Short, controlled bursts’, a reference to the line from Aliens uttered by Hicks

The similarity of marines being attacked by a large group of insectoid hive minded aliens, appearing from vents and ambushing the marines with this line uttered shortly after is an unmistakable reference to the Aliens gunfight in the control room later in the movie
