A planetary defense force refers to the military directly governed by a local government rather than the Unified Earth Government. Planetary defense forces are distinct from the United Nations Space Command and Colonial Military Authority.[1]

Spartan Operations, a service branch of the UNSC Armed Forces, recruits veteran personnel from select planetary defense forces.[1] Some planetary defense forces utilize F-41 Broadswords.[2]
