#So far as I understand it, the UNSC Armed Forces is the blanket organization of the entire military; that is to say covering all 5 branches. Items like the UNSC Department of Commercial Shipping was once the CMA Department of Commercial Shipping but when the UNSC absorbed the CMA they left a lot of the technical hierarchy in place and just shuffled some of the leadership around. Where the M in CMA was Military, they ended up relegated to the non-military aspects and the UNSC took over anything military. So while there's a UNSC Department of Commercial Shipping in the org chart, they have a fraction of the power/influence they once had as the CMA/CAA. The others you mention can still be under one of the branches but have a miz of civilian contractors and military personnel both. Not sure if that clarifies things or muddies the water more.

#I believe a UNSCEF is assembled/dismantled as-needed. There may not always be an active expeditionary force but when the need arises, units from probably all branches would be assigned to a UNSCEF. The UNSCDF would be more like the Army and Air Force branches. They are the defensive units for planets/colonies. ::Ah, I see - thanks a lot for the clarification! For reference, I'm currently working on a big writeup [[User:BaconShelf/Sandbox3|here]], so this is useful to know. I think that, given the current encyclopedia ''doesn't'' capitalise the term "UNSC armed forces", I see it as unlikely it's a major enough subdivision to warrant having its own entire article separate from the overall UNSC article. As for DF/EF units, it sounds an awful lot like the way the various newer sources (fleet battles, encyclopedia 2022 etc) describe stuff like the [[Marine Expeditionary Force]]s or the way Marine deployments get handled between NAVCOM/UNICOM.
