Sergeant Kress was stationed on a UNSC Marine outpost when it came under assault by [[Covenant]] forces. During the battle, the Covenant sent waves of [[Jiralhanae]] soldiers on a suicide mission to devastate the marines left inside the base. Following a wave attack, Kress was notified by the station's [[AI]], [[Beatrix]], that she was the highest-ranking marine in the outpost and was to assume command of the remaining troops. When Beatrix offered to assist Kress before becoming non-operational, Kress instructed her to message UNSC Command to send them support.
