Buffer fields are energy fields which allow manipulation of gravity in a variety of ways.[1] The Forerunners developed various applications for them, including keeping ships aloft in a planetary atmosphere,[2] inertial dampening aboard starships,[3] as well as generation of artificial gravity.[1] It was said that anti-gravity buffer fields generated a sensation of pressure in the air.[2]
