The ODST field guide at B.net says the SOCOM uses the M225 Semi-Armor-Piercing High-Explosive, however, the pistol's ammo packs (I found two by what I think is Romeo's drop pod; the one in the middle of a courtyard somewhat close to Tayari Plaza) say it's the M228 Semi-Armor-Piercing High-Penetration round. Despite Bungie's description, I feel the SAP-HP round is what the gun actually uses, as it's consistent to the damage it deals to units in game; it takes a good number of non-headshots to drop a Grunt, an obscene amount to drop a shielded Brute, and has virtually no stopping power.P0lar bear 09:03, October 30, 2009 (UTC)

From a firearms point of view, the M6C has almost nothing in common with this and the rest of the M6 series, only being aesthetically similar. Halo 2's M6C is very much like the real life Jericho 941/Baby Eagle in relation to the Wikipedia:Desert Eagle, and I'm going to copy something from the Desert Eagle page that basically sums up what I'm trying to say:
"Magnum Research has marketed various versions of the short recoil Jericho 941 pistol under the Baby Eagle name; these have no functional relationship to the Desert Eagle and bear only a moderate cosmetic resemblance."
Okay, now let's try that again:
"Bungie has marketed the M6S pistol under the M6C/SOCOM name; these have no functional relationship to the M6C and bear only a moderate cosmetic resemblance."
While Bungie may have decided to call it the M6C/SOCOM, and therefore, it is canon, this makes no sense at all. Of note is that Buck refers to it as the M6S, and the special forces version of the M7, as the M6S and M7S respectively. As a matter of consistency, the M6 and M7 both do not have nearly enough variants to get to "S", so it's obvious it was chosen to show that they are the suppressed variants. From a UNSC standpoint, regardless of the funtion of the weapons, it just makes sense that they're both "S". Modern/Halo military designations are almost always consistent, and it should be possible to assume that a perminatly suppressed version of any other UNSC firearm would get the "S" designation, like MA5S or SRS99S. Sadly, as it stands, we can't.
I'm not saying M6C/SOCOM isn't canon. It is, but it shouldn't be. Alex T Snow 03:47, 6 March 2012 (EST)
