BigQuote|'''Earth Surver Catalogue B1008-AG''', or "Threshold", is the gas-giant that Alpha Halo orbits between the Lagrange point between it, and it's largest moon, Basis. Little else is known about it's composition. Numerous Forerunner gas-mining facilities lie beneath it's upper atmosphere, where the Forerunners attempted to keep the Flood contained. After the facilities proves ineffectual, the Halos were built nearby to take over the containment procedures.

BigQuote|In the MP guide section of Halo 1 for Xbox. It describes Derelict as a "long unused portion of Halo". And yet... in the game, the UI describes it as "Deep-Space Anomaly #0198".

Given that Threshold has also been recorded in UNSC logs as "'''Earth Survey Catalogue Number B1008-AG''', nick-named "Threshold"", (this was in the Halo Story Bible) it is reasonable to assume that both Threshold and Halo have been encountered by the UNSC in some form, and probably at the same time.

Interesting, no? I thought Derelict might be some other Forerunner remnant (considering that there are windows on all sides and Halo is no where to be seen), but if the MP guide is right about it being part of Halo... that means that Deep-Space Anomaly #0198 is Halo.

BigQuote|In '''Fall of Reach''', the Covenant go to Sigmas Octans 4 to steal the mineral rocks that have start charts on them. One of those had the starts leading to Halo's loaction. So when it came time for Cortana to make a random ecaspe jump from Reach she selected the star chart that the Covenant got from the rock samples. She did this becuase she wanted to know what the Covenant wanted there.

Threshold and Basis are named because the system was surveyed, though not visited, by Earth astromomers. It says in the book that Threshold is known as "'''Earth Survey Catalogue Number B1008-AG'''". So the UNSC knew about the star system and planets, but not Halo....
