:Generally speeking, the Covenant have never taken combat prisoners. It is never explained why these marines were taken. It is possible that, if any of them survived the covenant and flood to make it to earth, they could be awarded the medal, but considering the state of earth in the Halo 3 trailer, I'd say Earth has bigger problems than awarding medals. Besides, we don't know any of their names. -ED 19:48, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

::What about Keyes? The Covenant took all of his lifeboat prisoner on the Truth & Reconciliation. I think "the Covenant usually don't take prisoners" might be better. Mr Toad 23:27, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
:::Actually Keyes is the only one from his lifeboat to be taken prisoner the rest were execute right on the spot, according to the book (Halo: The Flood)anyway-- MCDBBlits 00:02, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Even though technically Master Chief should have got this medal, they probably didn't want to give it to him for morale reasons.
on Gravemind i left at the most 3 because most wouldnt go up the lift and were killed by brutes
