:Generally speeking, the Covenant have never taken combat prisoners. It is never explained why these marines were taken. It is possible that, if any of them survived the covenant and flood to make it to earth, they could be awarded the medal, but considering the state of earth in the Halo 3 trailer, I'd say Earth has bigger problems than awarding medals.
