the ship unsc minotaur was indeed destroyed by the covenant ship but it was hit on a deck and emerged out by h deck. the beam moved and hit their reactors destroying the ship. Herodotus was bisected. the carier Musashi was also killed by this weapon. see page 298 and 320 of fall of reach -Spartan 1138
