I've also seen in that trailer a sort of personalised bubble shield. The player uses it to deflect a Ghost that was boosting at him. I dunno if the Ghost exploded afterwards because of it, or because of some outside force (eg: explosive)

Not quite true, you select your loadout at the beginning of the game (and each time you die) and the armour ability is part of the loadout. If we renamed this loadouts we'd have to rename weapons loadouts as well.82.45.116.95 16:31, May 2, 2010 (UTC)

Hey all, I was just at the Control Point Defense in Toronto on Sept 4th and I got to play a game of firefight. At one point I was fighting a brute captain, who several times used armour lock against me. I just wanted to point out the it seems that not only the Spartans and Elites will be able to use the Armour Ability option, but that the Brutes will as well. I wonder if the Brute Chieftans will have a uniquie armour ability, like an invincibility or something that you can only use if you successfully kill one in campaign or something. Any thoughts?

New armor lock glitch?
I was playing firefight with a friend when I decided to bother him by standing on him. Eventually a Brute with a Plasma Launcher shot at me and I used armor lock. That resulted in my friend flying pretty far across the map, along with me. Is this something worth noting on this site, I mean as a glitch?--Blahmarrow 19:17, 7 November 2010 (EST)
Armor lock creates a localized gravitation effect, forcing you towards the ground. If your friend was below you, then you being pushed to the ground pushes your friend(and you) quite some distance. A glitch? yes. Notable? debatable. DatrDeletr 00:44, 15 November 2010 (EST)
Are armor abilities canon?
Normally the answer to this would automatically be yes. But we already know that one isn't (Sprint), so that means we have less faith in others. I mean, Armor Lock can protect you from a frickin orbital strike (Target Locator)! And as we see throughout the series, all holograms need to be on a holo-projecter to operate, yet Hologram has a hologram out of nothing. And how is it physically possible to smack the ground and make a near invincible shield around you (Drop Shield). I mean maybe if you had a big device, but this comes out of your frickin hands! I know a lot about canon because I have played all the games and read all the books. And why would moving make Active Camouflage weaker?! And with the Jet Pack, I think it's possible but why only like 2 inches. I think the Jet Pack and Active Camouflage are the only possible ones and are weak because they were just toned down for the sake of gameplay. I think you should agree with me!!!!! I fail to see how any armor abilities are non-canon. Please read the manual, it includes a section on armor abilities. "I think we should all not agree with you!!!!!" Btw, act more mature and your point is easier to prove. DatrDeletr 00:44, 15 November 2010 (EST)
I have read the manuel. The manuel really doesn't give a lot of info about that kind of stuff. And read my post more carefully. If you have read the books, then you know that you can run in MJOLNIR Mark V. So in the manuel when it says that there are neural inhibitors that makes it impossible to run, we know that isn't true, which would make that ability extremely redundant, so that probably doesn't exist. If we know that one of them doesn't exist, then we have less (fuck, can't think of the word!!) "faith" in the other Abilities. If you read what I wrote in the post above, then you would see that the other abilities are also unrealistic (even in a universe where you can travel a light year in a day). If you are too lazy to read about why they are unrealistic then I will tell you AGAIN. " I mean, Armor Lock can protect you from a frickin orbital strike (Target Locator)! And as we see throughout the series, all holograms need to be on a holo-projecter to operate, yet Hologram has a hologram out of nothing. And how is it physically possible to smack the ground and make a near invincible shield around you (Drop Shield). I mean maybe if you had a big device, but this comes out of your frickin hands!"... "And why would moving make Active Camouflage weaker?! And with the Jet Pack, I think it's possible but why only like 2 inches." :You're right that the abilities were created purely for the sake of gameplay. However, since Bungie went through the trouble of creating canon explanations for them, they're all canon until someone says otherwise. Even though the effects of some abilities such as Drop Shield may be slightly unrealistic in the game, that's because it's a game. If they made a book where the abilities showed up, some of them (such as Drop Shield having no visible emitter) may be more realistic. They've taken liberties with gameplay before. Sure, you can run in Mark V. My guess is that the "canon" version of the Sprint plug actually makes the user run a lot faster than in the game, but it's the way it is because you'd be running so fast it wouldn't work in the game. Plus, no one said that the Mark V had no safeties. That was the case with the Mark IV - so it's possible they fixed it in the later models. As for the jetpack, that's gameplay limitations again. The piece of equipment is canon, but its gameplay mechanics, not so much. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 02:34, 16 November 2010 (EST)
::O.K. I hear what you're saying. And I know that MJOLNIR has safeties. But in the games those safeties are UNBELIEVABLY exaggerated. A SPARTAN-II (not sure about SPARTAN-III) can run, and still be able to aim his/her weapon pretty well. But hopefully, in one of the new books that are coming out will explain and help fix the canon issues with the abilities! Vegerot (talk) 17:39, 16 November 2010 (EST)!!!!
:::My opinion on this issue is that most armour abilities are simply gameplay enhancements; Sprint and Evade are natural abilities to SPARTANs and Elites without the need of any additional utility, that is to say, not canon. We've seen Armour Lock in action before; John-117 activated his armour lock to survive the atmospheric re-entry, whereas Jorge and Six used Armour Lock to avoid injuries as they crashed towards the Spire. Armour Lock, in canon in my opinion, does not provide elaborated protection against heavy weapons/explosives as featured in the game; it overcharges the shielding system akin to an overshield for a short period, but not to the extent of deflecting a rocket, destroying vehicles or removing a plasma grenade like the game portrays. If one needs reference, refer to use of the Bubble Shield concept in the Starry Night trailer. Drop Shield is essentially the Bubble Shield, but far more realistic version as it takes in actual damage and eventually collapse after surpassing the damage threshold. In my opinion of its actual purpose in the canon universe, the Drop Shield is a portable Armour Lock-like utility usable by any personnel without shielding system. It does not heal the user (that's simply a gameplay factor) but it does offer protection similar to the Bubble Shield. Jetpack, as Jugus has said, is limited in its function for gameplay balance. This also applies to Active-Camouflage, which would not have the user's radar jammed and would provide periods of invisibility similar to a Stealth Elite. Hologram, I would assume, would be similar as its game counterpart if one to apply it in the canon universe; I can't really think of anything wrong about Hologram being in the canon universe.- 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 17:46, 16 November 2010 (EST)
::::Basically, yeah. However, despite the similar naming, I still think that the Armor Lock ability and the armor lockdown used to protect from impacts are not the same thing, since the lockdown makes the armor stiffen while increasing the pressure of the hydrostatic gel to maximum, as explained in First Strike. I'm not sure if an enhanced energy shield such as Armor Lock would even protect from heavy impacts; it seems more suitable against incoming attacks. In my opinion, Armor Lock could exist as a shield enhancing device as depicted in the game, but not necessarily as powerful. As for the "sprint" plug, outside gameplay context, I guess the attachment would radically increase the user's movement speed, much more so than the sprinting speed in the game. They did provide a canon explanation for it though, so I'm assuming it's canon to some degree. Hologram would probably work similarly to a Holo-Drone, only a lot simpler and easier to produce. We don't see a projector drone in-game, but then again, we don't see the device that projects Drop Shield either. In the end, one must always be sure to take in-game features with a grain of salt; in the case of Armor Abilities, Bungie was generous enough to come up with canon explanations of some kind. The base concept behind each ability may be canon, but we still don't need to assume everything seen in the game is. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 18:22, 16 November 2010 (EST)
::Well, there is the slight issue of the Hologram being able to project in full color when before both UNSC and Covenant holograms appeared to be stuck displaying just one color. But on the main subject, there seems to be no problem with Armor Abilities being canon, albeit as adjusted for gameplay. Said abilities seem to be perfectly in realm for both factions to produce, and it's sure that they would. It does bring up a question though, about, say Active Camoflauge, which was once "one-time use" and now is a reusable device. But that's just a minor issue. Subtank. I know that all of NOBLE Team and SPARTAN-117 can lock their armor. BUT, I think your talking about a different kind of locking. Do you mean to say that in the canon, Armor Lock is just super hardening your armor for a few seconds, and doesn't have to do with your shield? Vegerot (talk) 18:38, 16 November 2010 (EST)!!!!!!!!!!
:Read again; "it overcharges the shielding system akin to an overshield for a short period".- 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 19:24, 16 November 2010 (EST)
But the Master Chief SPARTAN-117 didn't overcharge his shield, he stiffened (bow chicka bow wow) while increasing the pressure of the hydrostatic gel to maximum. Vegerot (talk) 19:43, 16 November 2010 (EST)!!!!!!!
:I guess that's the only flaw with my theory. Perhaps there's two levels of armour locking; the first being overcharging the shields which would be visible if there is an opposing force applied and the second being the increase pressure of gel. But again, John's shield could have been overcharged but since nothing is reacting with the armour, we don't see it in the cutscene... similar to what happened in ToTS. The visual effects of Armour Lock in Reach could simply be for awesome/epic design and might not present the most canon appearance. But again, none of this is official. - 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 20:07, 16 November 2010 (EST)

Canonically, the "Sprint" function operates by bypassing the safety limiters of the MJOLNIR actuators and "muscles", allowing better performance at the expense of heat regulation, overheating the user if used for prolonged periods. This "hack" was developed by Catherine-B320.
