Frigates are the most common star ships among the UNSC. Although it is significantly weaker in armour, and weapons the, Frigate is smaller (thus more maneuverable) and cheaper than the Marathon-class cruiser . A Frigate's armament also includes a squadron of C709 Longsword starfighter and three to four Pelican dropships. As well a detachment of Marine and ODST troopers

Unless commanded by a brillant captain or operating in large numbers the UNSC Frigate is barely a match for even the smallest Covenant vessel. Frigates have seen action in all campaigns large and small. Notably the Battles of Reach, Sigma Octanus IV, Harvest, and The First Battle of Earth.
