Meridian is a human colony world[1] and a natural satellite of a gas giant.[2] The city of Angoulême was located on the moon.[3] A high concentration of Forerunner artifacts existed on Meridian; their presence was known to the Office of Naval Intelligence.[4]

The moon held a temperate climate and fertile land. Prior to its glassing, Meridian had an impressive population and robust economy; mining was a known industry on the colony.[5]

History

ONI Section Three had facilities on the moon, to which several SPARTAN-II augmentation chemical precursors were sent without Dr. Catherine Halsey's consent, likely in order to be researched for Project CHRYSANTHEMUM. Meridian was home to many Chalybs Defense Solutions facilities before they were abandoned sometime after the Fall of Reach.[6] The moon was attacked sometime during the Human-Covenant War by the Covenant, though the UNSC successfully fended them off. The Covenant later returned to Meridian and glassed the moon in 2551.[1]

During the battle a small Covenant team discovered a Luminary, which they delivered to the Prophet of Regret. The Luminary would later reveal the locations of the Halo rings, the Ark, and a slipspace portal to the Ark found on Earth.[2]

Sometime after the end of the Human-Covenant War, Meridian was apparently resettled by the UNSC, once again hosting large human settlements by the year 2558.

Sometime in 2558, followers of the religion Triad posted a three-second clip from a helmet recorder of a Lt. Martin on Meridian during an unknown hostile event. A panicked voice can be heard shouting, as if from a great distance, but it is unintelligible over the hurricane-force winds. The timestamp on the recording is 08:33:13 local time.[7]

On the Hunt the Truth Tumblr site, another three-second clip from the helmet recorder of a "K. Davis" shows a woman from the knees down, standing amidst a mass of rubble, her long skirt flapping around her legs in a gale-force wind. The air is filled with blowing dust, and a strange modulated (and clearly artificial) howling noise can be heard over the maelstrom. A voice (presumably the woman's) can be heard saying "John?... ...Somebody help!..." The timestamp on this recording is also 08:33:13 local time, indicating that both recordings are occurring simultaneously.[8]
