The year is 2554. Edward Buck, formerly an ODST Gunnery Sargent, has joined the Spartan IV program, alongside his squad Alpha Nine. An operation to retrieve Virgil, an Engineer, and Sadie, his human handler, goes wrong when Alpha Nine is captured by the reformed Rebels on Draco III. It is revealed that Buck haled from Draco III, where he joined the UNSC in 2528. His family was killed by a Covenant Invasion sometime after, which spurred his enlistment in the UNSC.
