Saturn is a gas giant and the sixth planet in orbit from Sol. It is the third largest body in the Sol system behind, Jupiter and Sol itself.[1]

Overview[edit]

Saturn is considered one of the more visually appealing objects in the Sol system, due to the gas giant's bright, massive system of planetary rings.[1]

History[edit]

Colonization efforts[edit]

Several of Saturn's moons were sites for attempted colonization efforts that were ultimately abandoned or "lost", leaving the colony efforts in ruins on the moons' surface. These ruins are frequently used as operating bases for bands of human pirates.[4] Overall, Saturn's natural satellites are not as explored as Jupiter's moons.[1]

Eventually though Titan has been established as an industrial colony of the Unified Earth Government and Saturn itself became home to helium-3 mining facilities, as well as research habitats that orbit the planet.[2]

In general, the gas giant's practical uses to the United Nations Space Command are limited, due to Saturn's distance from Sol and the lack of necessity to be colonized, and therefore it is mostly just a tourist destination.[1]

26th-century[edit]

A tourist station called Castellaneta is positioned in geosynchronous orbit on the "sunny side" of Saturn's outermost ring.[5]
