It is also worth noting that "guerilla" is a play on words of "gorilla." The actual term "guerilla" comes from the spanish "guerra" and means, "small war". Guerilla is a style of fighting which employs "hit and run" tactics. Guerilla can also refer to a freedom fighter or insurgent because they use guerilla tactics which allow smaller armies to overcome larger ones, which ties to the final part of the level, where only the Master Chief, the Arbiter, and possibly a few marines must overcome a large group of Covenant, including a Chieftain with a Hammer. Guerilla is a Halo 3 Meta-Game Achievement. It is earned when the player earns 15,000 points while playing the meta-game on Sierra 117. This Achievement gives 10 Gamerpoints to the player.

It is represented by a blue circle with a gorilla face in it.

Also, Guerilla fighters tend to fight mainly in Jungles, and have bases in them too. The marines in this case are Guerilla fighters using Hit and run tactics against the Covenant Forces scattered across the Jungle.

Possible references to Guerilla:

  • The software used by bungie to edit the map tags: Guerilla.
  • The game industry Guerilla, who made the Killzone games (meant to be a halo killer for the PS2) which also gave Bungie the idea for the EOD Armor.
