The MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor/G, also known as Grenadier, is a variant of the MJOLNIR Mark IV Powered Assault Armor.

Overview

Specifications

This variant was a test bed for incorporating energy shielding technology with the MJOLNIR program. The helmet features an up-armored configuration with heads-up software that adjusts to combat situations that improves the user's performance and suitability. It is equipped with blast-guard pauldrons.[1]

Development history

The Mark IV [G] prototype[Note 1] was introduced just over a decade after Mjolnir entered service.[1] Intended to provide additional protection from concussive force, the Mark IV [G] helmet's architecture is an up-armored derivation of a likewise prototypical Mark IV design.[1] The [G] variant served as the basis for all subsequent supplemental armor development programs; it is compatible with later models such as the Mark V. The [G] variant served as a test bed for incorporating energy shielding technology with the MJOLNIR program,TEMPLATE ERROR: Template using invalid/disallowed fields: "sectionlinktext", "section"[2] although these tests were ultimately unsuccessful;[3] energy shielding had previously been tested as of 2531.[4][Note 2]

After the first wave of GEN2 systems, based on requests of veteran Spartan-II and Spartan-III operatives, the UNSC Ordnance Commission considered reassessing a refined and upgraded version of the Grenadier suit. This led to the creation of the INDOMITABLE-class Mjolnir.[5]

Usage

This variant saw limited use as other variants filled the same role instead. Jorge-052 wore a variant of the Grenadier helmet with the UA (Up-Armored) attachment, as well as the knee guards, left shoulder, and UA chest piece.[1]

In-game information

Halo: Reach

"The Mk. IV [G] variant is an up-armored prototype based on the basic Mk. IV helmet."

All Grenadier armor types in the Armory are unlockable in the game's purchase system via the use of cR. In Halo: The Master Chief Collection, the Grenadier set is attainable in the Season 1: Noble progression system. Due to its adoption from the customized armor of Jorge-052, the Grenadier [UA] chest plate has his Spartan tag "052" written on the collar.

Production notes

The Grenadier helmet resembles an early design of the MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor/Mark IV created during the production of Halo Wars. It also resembles the Mark IV armor on the cover of Halo: The Cole Protocol.

Notes

  1. ^ Although the Halo: Reach Armory consistently describes the [G] variant itself as a prototype, Halo: The Essential Visual Guide makes no mention of this, instead stating that GRENADIER is derived from a Mark IV prototype. While the book's description may stem from a misinterpretation of the original source, both are represented in this article since they do not contradict one another.
  2. ^ "Energy shielding was a key feature of Mark V, although other Spartan squads had field-tested prototypes of this technology as early as 2531."
