The Core Room Antechamber was a massive chamber located in the center of the Forerunner construct Onyx, serving as the only enterance to Shield World. It was extensive, and had a bright white glow.
The core room antechamber was a massive chamber located at the center and core of the Forerunner-constructed world Onyx. The antechamber served as the only entrance to Shield World 006, sheltered in a slipspace rift within Onyx's core. Upon the powering up of the Halos, the antechamber was reachable by and via specific Slipstream translocation devices; however, the core room is only accessible for a short time and duration after the Halos are primed.

The actual portal to the shield world was itself in the center of a large stepped structure within the antechamber, which SCPO Mendez compared to Hell in Dante's Inferno, although Dr. Catherine Halsey noted that Hell in Inferno was a pit of descending rings. Following the priming of the Halos, the structure would gradually 'flatten' until it became level with the ground. At this point, the entrance to the shield world would be sealed.
Following the activation of the Halos, the Core Room Antechamber would become accessable via several teleporters on the Forerunner ruins around the world. They would transport the user to the Core Room Antechamber, which contained a large hill made of ascending steps. Gradually, the steps would descend, making the hill shorter and shorter until it was level with the ground. At this point, the entrance to Shield world, which was at the center of the hill, would close forever.

The antechamber was the site of a desperate rearguard and strategic action by Spartan-IIs and Spartan-IIIs led by Lieutenant Commander Kurt Ambrose against Covenant forces under Fleet Master Voro Nar 'Mantakree during the Onyx Conflict in 2552. The antechamber was destroyed when Kurt Ambrose detonated FENRIS nuclear warheads within, sacrificing himself to deny the Covenant access to shield world.
This room was the site of a huge battle between the Spartan-IIs and -IIIs under Spartan-051 (Kurt) and the Covenant forces under Voro 'Mantakree. It was destroyed when Spartan-051 detonated FENRIS Nuclear Warheads in an act of self sacrifice, killing the Covenant.
