Loki was an Planetary Security Artificial Intelligence construct in service with the United Nations Space Command. It was stationed aboard the Phoenix-class Colony Ship, UNSC Skidbladnir [1] until it landed on Harvest. Loki took over Mack's processor when the time needed be. Loki is unlike any other AI in that he can trade places with Mack. Besides a few minor variations of the avatar, mainly the eye color but Loki's avatar is clean whereas Mack's is dirty from "working in the field", they look the same. When Harvest was attacked, Loki made the escape plan, destroyed the Tiara and killed Sif. He was weakened by a Brute attack and unable to rebalance the Tiara but was helped by Sif. He earlier tried (and mostly succeded in) to destroy her and left a fragment of himself on the Tiara to operate it. His fragment was what worked with Lighter Than Some to help plan how to defend Harvest. His attempt to destroy Sif failed as Lighter Than Some repaired her and his fragment was destroyed by Mack. It ended up being lucky that Lighter Than Some repaired Sif as in his weakened state he was unable to rebalance the Tiara and only succeded thanks to Sif's help. The second time he tried to destroy her, Mack prevented him, but Sif agreed with him and convinced Mack to let him do it. His destroying of the Tiara and Sif may have saved countless worlds as Sif and the Tiara held the location of every human world including Earth.

Trivia

  • Loki is named after the god of chaos in Norse Mythology. He was an adept shape-shifter and could change not only his form, but also his sex, possibly referencing the ability to switch between himself and Mack. In Norse Mythology, he usually plays the role of villain and trickster.
  • There is a group of structures called "The Pillars of Loki", which could be a reference to him.[2]
  • Loki seems to be the only AI with two different egos; himself and Mack.
