One of the leading theories is that the Age of Abandonment was the time when the [[Forerunner]]'s left the activated Halo, or, as the [[Covenant]] put it, "Embark on the [[Great Journey]]". The Covenant believe that the Forerunner's underwent the [[Great Journey]], but in fact they disappeared because they activated the seven [[Halos]] in order to contain the [[Flood]], thereby killing themselves and all sentient life in the galaxy. The Age of Abandonment is one of the period's in Covenant history.

One of the leading theories is that the Age of Abandonment was the time when the Forerunner's left the activated Halo, or, as the Covenant put it, "Embark on the Great Journey". The Covenant believe that the Forerunner's underwent the Great Journey, but in fact they disappeared because they activated the seven Halos in order to contain the Flood, thereby killing themselves and all sentient life in the galaxy. This event happened about 100,000 year's before 2552, before the rest of the Covenant races had evolved enough to become sentient. the flood is beleived to be the forrunners themselves this is supported by the "great journey" theroy by the prophet of regret in halo 2. in halo3 the death of truth from arbater was followed by "your kind will never understand what it means of sacrifice" when i witnessed this it made me believe that the rings did in fact contian the flood but with the walls of expansion closed for the forunners it also closed the chances of them killing wat flood was left the rings were fired once but did not wipe out the species intirally leaving some flood and some for runners and when the forunners of course faild the flood took over and started over there pathetic race...as of gravemind's story you wander.....its still unknown except him being the leader of all flood, and its a theroy -JUST A THEROY- he was the forunner leader but kept his current state in life as a leader....
