— Description of the Air Assault helmet.
The Air Assault helmet as seen in the Armory.

The MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor/AA variant, or Air Assault helmet, is a helmet designed by Ushuaia Armory then later manufactured by the Naphtali Contractor Corporation. In addition to featuring specialized optics, it can provide real-time satellite imagery and enemy signature allocation. The helmet offers key advantages during airborne deployment scenarios.[1]

Development history

The MJOLNIR/AA variant, which was designed as an improvement to the ODST helmet,[2][Note 1] was developed for use by the UNSC Army Airborne.[1] In 2535, after being tested at Ushuaia's Siófok Firing Range, the Air Assault helmet was introduced as a variant of the Mark IV MJOLNIR armor, and was also adopted as the standard helmet of the Airborne.[1] In 2551, the helmet was upgraded for use with the Mark V MJOLNIR system.[3][1] Sometime after 2553, the armor received a GEN2 upgrade and is primarily used by ONI security personnel.

In-game information

Price: 15,000 cR
The AA helmet somewhat resembles the CQB helmet except for a larger visor and the absence of the chin guard. It also resembles the helmet worn by ODSTs in Halo 2.[4]

Two upgrades are available for the helmet. The first upgrade, UA/CNM, adds an up-armor plate with a Command Network Module on the right side. The second upgrade, FC-I, adds an up-armor plate with a Command Network Module-Improved on the right side.

Note

  1. ^ According to Halo: Reach's Armory, the AA helmet was developed as an improvement of the ODST helmet. According to Halo: The Essential Visual Guide, the former helmet's design was influenced by Ushuaia's extensive work on the Marine Corps BDU, and it is implied that the AA helmet was not modified from the ODST helmet's design. Given the context of these apparently conflicting statements, it is possible that the AA helmet was not derived from the ODST helmet per se, but was instead developed "from scratch", with the ODST helmet serving as inspiration; it was designed to possess similar features and functionality, resulting in a similar overall appearance.
