==Overview==

Introduced as an executive transport for [[Covenant fleet|fleet]] [[Fleetmaster|commanders]], the ''R'shwupa''-pattern Phantom represented the most powerful dropship ever employed by the Covenant. It is similar in design to the standard {{Pattern|Ru'swum|Phantom}}, but noticeably larger.{{Ref/Reuse|model}} Although it is considered a vacuum-sealed variant of the [[Phantom]] family outfitted against orbital assets,{{Ref/Reuse|enc22}}{{Ref/Level|Id=LNoS|HR|[[Long Night of Solace (level)|Long Night of Solace]]}} albeit seen capable of operating in-atmosphere,{{Ref/Reuse|HSA}}{{Ref/Reuse|HSS}} standard Phantom gunships were also sometimes used during [[space warfare|space engagements]].{{Ref/Film|Id=origins|Film=Halo Legends|Story=Origins II}}{{Ref/Comic|Id=Issue 3|Comic=Halo: Uprising|Issue=[[Halo: Uprising Issue 3|#3]]}}{{Ref/Level|Spartan Ops|[[Invasion (Spartan Ops)/Home Field|S107 Home Field]]}}{{Ref/Quest|Id=wg|HI|Ringfall|Warship Gbraakon}}

 

Unlike other Phantom models, the gunboat is fitted with powerful [[Energy shielding#Covenant energy shielding|energy fore-shields]] that can be emitted to deflect missile attacks, thus very little could blunt its devastating assault.{{Ref/Reuse|enc22}}{{Ref/Reuse|LNoS}}

The ''R'shwupa''-pattern Phantom has an array of heavy weapon systems.{{Ref/Reuse|enc22}} It is equipped with a chin-mounted [[heavy plasma cannon|superheavy plasma cannon]], five turreted [[Pulse laser turret|''Phot''-pattern pulse lasers]], swapping the standard Phantom's two attached [[Pek-pattern plasma cannon|plasma cannons]], and one [[medium plasma cannon]].{{Ref/Reuse|enc22}} This superheavy plasma cannon fires large plasma rounds similar to those of the normal "concussion" heavy plasma cannon.{{Ref/Reuse|LNoS}}. Each side of the ''R'shwupa''-pattern Phantom mounts two ''Phot''-pattern pulse lasers while the fifth is on an aft mount protecting the rear of the vessel.

==Service history==

Several Phantom gunboats assaulted the [[United Nations Space Command|UNSC]] [[refit station]] ''[[Anchor 9]]'' in [[Operation: UPPER CUT]] during the [[Fall of Reach]]. They were escorted by [[Type-31 Seraph]]s and {{Pattern|Elsedda|Banshee}}s. All of the attacking gunboats were destroyed by a combination of ''Anchor 9''{{'}}s defensive guns, fire support from the {{UNSCShip|Savannah}}, and the defending pilots, including [[SPARTAN-B312]], who, along with the other pilots, defended the station in a [[FSS-1000 Sabre]].{{Ref/Reuse|LNoS}} Phantom gunboats were also used during the [[Battle for Earth]], including the [[Battle of Mombasa]] with one such assault ship used to harass a [[M12B Warthog]] as [[John-117]], operating the [[M41 Vulcan|machine gun]], opened fire upon the gunboat.{{Ref/Level|Id=ss3|SS|Mission 3: Conduit}} Eight Phantom gunboats are carried by the {{Class|CAS|assault carrier}} ''[[Shadow of Intent]]''.{{Ref/Reuse|WF70}}
