He had the dubious honor of making the first recorded contact with the [[Covenant]].

The battle group consisted of his own ship, the destroyer UNSC ''Heracles'' and two frigates, the [[CMA Arabia|''Arabia'']] and the [[CMA Vostok|''Vostok'']]. On October 7, the battle group entered the [[Epsilon Indi system]] only to discover that the planet had been rendered a wasteland, with what left that was not incinerated into molten glass undergoing a nuclear winter. This high-temperature bombardment would later become known as "[[glassing]]".
