'''Earth City''' is the seventeenth track in ''[[Halo 2: Original Soundtrack|Halo 2: Original Soundtrack, Volume 1]]''.

The piece combines deep strings with a piano rhythm to create an imposing, suspense-filled piece. Towards the end, a higher string set creates a building crescendo, accompanied by a vocal set reminiscent of the one at the end of ''[[The Last Spartan]]''.

The piece was reorchestrated into ''[[Earth City (Halo Legends)|Earth City]]'' in ''[[Halo Legends: Original Soundtrack]]'' as well as ''[[Kilindini Harbour]]'' in ''[[Halo 2: Anniversary Original Soundtrack]]''.

==Appearances==

Its title suggests its association with [[New Mombasa]], the "[[Earth]] City" featured prominently in ''Halo 2''. It is first played in the [[Halo 2 E3 demo|''Halo 2'' E3 2003 demo]] when the Master Chief mans the gun of a Gauss Warthog and continues on until the end of the demo.

The soundtrack can be heard:
*In the opening cutscene of the level ''[[Outskirts]]'', when the [[D77H-TCI Pelican|Pelicans]] launched from {{UNSCShip|In Amber Clad}} encounter the {{Pattern|Protos|Scarab}}. 
*In a low strings version during the level ''[[Metropolis]]'', when [[John-117]] encounters [[Type-26 Wraith|Wraiths]] outside a [[UNSC Marine Corps|Marine]] command post, just before a Scarab passes through. 
*In full during the ending cutscene of ''Metropolis'', as the ''[[Solemn Penance]]'' prepares to make a [[Slipstream space|slipspace]] jump, while the ''In Amber Clad'' attempts to intercept it.
*During the level ''[[The Great Journey]]'', when [[Thel 'Vadam]] escorts the Scarab commandeered by [[Avery Johnson]] near the [[Control Room (Installation 05)|Control Room]] of [[Installation 05]].

==Production notes==
